2012 ముగిసిపోతోంది. ఈ ఏడాది తెరపైనే కాదు తెర వెనుక రసవత్తరమైన పోరు 
జరిగింది. ఇండస్ర్టీలో హిట్ శాతం పెరిగిందని లెక్కలేసేలోపే లెక్కలేని 
వివాదాలు టాలీవుడ్ ను సతమతం చేశాయి. చిన్న సినిమాలే కాదు పెద్ద సినిమాల 
వివాదాలు కూడా టాలీవుడ్ ను పట్టిపీడించాయి. కులం, మతం, ప్రాంతాల విషయంలో 
సినిమాలు వేలుపెట్టాయి. దాంతో తమ మనోభావాలు దెబ్బతిన్నాయంటూ నిరసన జ్వాలలు 
ఎగిసిపడ్డాయి.

ఈ ఏడాది ప్రారంభంలోనే మహేష్‌బాబు, పూరి జగన్నాధ్‌ల కాంబినేషన్‌లో విడుదలైన 
'బిజినెస్ మేన్'లోని ఐటం సాంగ్ వివాదంలో ఇరుక్కుంది. ఈ చిత్రంలో వియ్‌ ఆర్‌
 బ్యాడ్‌ బాయ్స్‌ అనే పాటలో హిందువుల మనోభావాలు దెబ్బతీసేదిగా ఉందని ఆ 
పాటను తొలగించాలని గొడవలు చేశారు. ఈ వివాదం కొంతకాలం కొనసాగి ఆ తర్వాత 
చల్లారింది.  పవన్ కళ్యాణ్ నటించిన ‘కెమెరామెన్ గంగతో రాంబాబు' చిత్రంపై 
కూడా నిరసన జ్వాలలు ఎగిసిపడ్డాయి. తెలంగాణ ఉద్యమాన్ని, ఇక్కడి ప్రజల 
మనోభావాలను కించ పరిచే విధంగా సీన్లు, డైలాగులు ఉన్నాయని తెలంగాణ 
వ్యాప్తంగా ఆందోళనలు జరిగాయి. డైరెక్టర్ పూరీ, నిర్మాత దిల్ రాజు ఆఫీసులపై 
కూడా తెలంగాణ వాదులు దాడులు చేశారు. సినిమాలోని అభ్యంతరకరమైన సీన్లు 
తొలగిస్తామని ప్రకటించడంతో వివాదం కాస్త చల్లారింది.

ఈ ఏడాది వివాదం ఎదుర్కొన్న మరో పెద్ద సినిమా రచ్చ. రిలీజ్ కు ముందే ఈ 
సినిమా వివాదంలో ఇరుక్కుంది. ఒక పాటలో గౌతమ బుద్దుని విగ్రహం ముందు అశ్లీల 
సన్నివేశాలు చిత్రీకరించారని జాతీయ అరుంధతీ మహిళా శక్తి సంఘం నుంచి తీవ్ర 
అభ్యంతరాలు ఎదురయ్యాయి.   ఈ ఏడాది బ్రహ్మణ సంఘాలు కొన్ని సినిమాలపై 
కన్నెర్రచేశాయి. తమ మనోభావాలు దెబ్బతీశాయంటూ బ్రహ్మణులు రొడ్డేక్కారు. 
టైటిల్ వివాదాలు కూడా ఎదుర్కున్నాయి కొన్ని సినిమాలు. 'ఏ ఉమెన్‌ ఇన్‌ 
బ్రాహ్మణిజం' చిత్రం మరో వివాదానికి కేంద్ర బిందువైంది. సమాజంలోని ఒక వర్గం
 స్త్రీలను అసభ్యంగా చిత్రీకరించారంటూ ఏ ఉమెన్‌ ఇన్‌ బ్రాహ్మణిజం సినిమాపై 
నిరసనలు వెల్లువెత్తాయి. బ్రాహ్మణ స్త్రీలను తప్పుగా చూపారని, సినిమాను 
నిషేధించాలంటూ రాష్ట్రవ్యాప్తంగా బ్రాహ్మణ వర్గీయులు ఆందోళన చేశారు. చలం 
రాసిన 'బ్రాహ్మణీకం' నవల ఆధారంగా రూపొందించిన చిత్రం అంటూ బ్రాహ్మణ 
స్త్రీలను కించపరిచేలా సినిమాలు తీయడం పట్ల బ్రాహ్మణ సంఘాలు మండిపడ్డాయి. ఈ
 సినిమాపై వేసిన కమిటీ ఈ చిత్రం ప్రజాప్రదర్శనకు ఆమోదయోగ్యం కాదని స్పష్టం 
చేసింది. అయితే ఈ చిత్రం నిర్మాతలు మళ్లీ కమిటీ నియామకం చెల్లదని హై 
కోర్టుకు వెళ్లారు.

ఇక దేనికైనా రెడీ సినిమా సృష్టించిన వివాదం అంతాఇంతా కాదు. ఈ సినిమాలో 
బ్రహ్మణులను కించపరిచేలా సన్నివేశాలు ఉన్నాయంటూ ఆ సామాజిక వర్గం 
రాష్ర్టవ్యాప్తంగా ఆందోళన తీవ్రతరం చేశారు. సినిమా విడుదలైనప్పటి నుంచి 
నాలుగు వారాల పాటు ఈ వివాదం మోహన్ బాబు కుటుంబం వర్సెస్ బ్రాహ్మణులుగా 
మారింది. చివరకు కేసులు, కోర్టులు, హెచ్చార్సీల వరకు వెళ్లిందీ సినిమా 
వ్యవహారం.   మహిళా టీచర్ల హుందాతనాన్ని దెబ్బతీసేదిగా, యువతను పక్కదారి 
పట్టించేదిగా ఉందనే ఆరోపణలు ఎదుర్కొంటూ వచ్చిన చిత్రం ‘సారీ టీచర్'. ఈ 
చిత్రంపై మొదట రాష్ట్ర హైకోర్టు స్టే విధించింది. అయితే 'సారీ టీచర్'కు 
యుబైఏ సర్టిఫికెట్ ఇచ్చామని.. ఐదుగురు సభ్యులతో కూడిన బృందం దాన్ని 
ఏకగ్రీవంగా ఆమోదించిందని సెన్సార్ తెలిపింది. సినిమా మానవ హక్కులను 
ఉల్లంఘిస్తున్నట్లు, మహిళా టీచర్ల హుందాతనాన్ని దెబ్బతీసేదిగా ఉందనడాన్ని, 
యువతను పక్కదారి పట్టించేదిగా ఉందన్న వాదనను సెన్సార్ బోర్డు కొట్టి 
పారేసింది. అయితే ఈ చిత్రం చట్టపరంగా వచ్చిన అన్ని అవరోధాలను తొలగించుకుని 
విడుదలైంది.

ఇక ఈ రోజుల్లో సినిమా దర్శకుడు మారుతి తెరకెక్కించిన 'బస్ స్టాప్' చిత్రం 
విడుదల రోజే వివాదంగా మారింది. విద్యార్థులను, యువతను తప్పుదోవ పట్టించేలా 
బస్‌స్టాప్‌ సినిమాలో సంభాషణలూ, దృశ్యాలూ ఉన్నాయని ఎస్‌ఎఫ్‌ఐ ఆరోపించింది. ఈ
 సినిమా ప్రదర్శిస్తున్న థియేటర్ల ఎదుట ధర్నాలు జరిగాయి. ఇది 'ఎ' 
సర్టిఫికేట్‌ చిత్రం. యూ, యూబైఎ అని ఇవ్వలేదే. కొందరు కావాలని సినిమాను 
అడ్డుకుంటున్నారని సెన్సార్ బోర్డ్ చేతులు దులుపుకుంది.  శ్రీకాంత్ నటించిన
 దేవరాయ సినిమా కూడా వివాదాల సుడిగుండంలో చిక్కుకుంది. ఈ సినిమాలో 
శ్రీకృష్ణ దేవరాయలును కించపరిచేలా చిత్రీకరించిన ‘దేవరాయ' చిత్రంలోని 
అసభ్యకర దృశ్యాలను వెంటనే తొలగించకపోతే ఆ సినిమా ప్రదర్శనను అడ్డుకోవటమేగాక
 సెట్‌లను తగులబెడతామని రాష్ట్ర కాపునాడు ఒక ప్రకటనలో హెచ్చరించింది. 
శ్రీకృష్ణదేవరాయల పాలనను అవహేళన చేస్తే ఊరుకోమని ఆందోళన చేశారు.

సినిమాలకు టైటిల్ వివాదాలు కూడా చుట్టిముట్టాయి. నాగార్జున నటించిన డమరుకం 
సినిమా టైటిల్ వివాదంలో చిక్కుకుంది. తాము డమరుకం టైటిల్ రిజిస్టర్ 
చేయించుకున్నామని.. అయితే ఆర్ఆర్ మూవీస్ వారు ‘ఢ' బదులు ‘డ' తగిలించి 
‘డమరుకం' పేరుతో సినిమాను తీసుకువస్తున్నారని యువ దర్శక నిర్మాతలు..ప్రమోద్
 కుమార్ గౌడ్,మనోజ్ కుమార్ ఆరోపించారు. ఫిలించాంబర్ ముందు ఆందోళన 
నిర్వహించారు. అంతేకాదు ఈ టైటిల్ వివాదం కోర్టుకు కూడా వెళ్లింది.   టైటిల్
 వివాదం ఎదుర్కున్న మరో సినిమా రవితేజ నటించిన 'దరువు'. నిజానికి దరువు 
అనేది 1999 లో విద్యార్ధి కళాకారుల ఆధ్యర్యంలో ఏర్పడిన సంఘం. సామాజిక 
వివక్షలపై, ప్రాంతీయ వివక్షలపై ఆటై, పాటై ఒక ఉన్నత ఆశయం కోసం 
పనిచేస్తోందని, దాన్ని వల్గర్ సినిమాకు టైటిల్ గా పెట్టారని, దాన్ని 
తొలిగించాలని దరువు సంఘం డిమాండ్ చేసింది.  తాజాగా రామ్ చరణ్ నటిస్తున్న 
నాయక్ సినిమాకు కూడా టైటిల్ వివాదం చుట్టిముట్టింది. ఈ సినిమాకు ‘నాయక్' 
అనే టైటిల్ పెట్టడాన్ని తెలంగాణ గిరిజన విద్యార్థి సంఘం డిమాండ్ చేస్తోంది.
 గిరిజన విద్యార్థి సంఘం నేతలు తమ అభ్యంతరం వ్యక్తం చేస్తున్నారు. సినిమా 
కోసం గిరిజన ఆత్మగౌరవానికి సంబంధించిన ‘నాయక్' అనే పదాన్ని వాడరాదని, ఈ పదం
 గిరిజనులకు రాజ్యాంగం కల్పించిన హక్కు అని, దాన్ని సినిమా వ్యాపారం కోసం 
వాడితే ఊరుకునే ప్రసక్తే లేదని, వెంటనే ‘నాయక్' టైటిల్ ను మార్చాలని 
డిమాండ్ చేసారు. లేని పక్షంలో సినిమాను అడ్డుకుంటామని హెచ్చరిస్తున్నారు.

ఈ ఏడాది టాప్ హీరోల సినిమాల మధ్య సరికొత్త గొడవ మొదలైంది. కరవమంటే కప్పకు 
కోపం, విడవమంటే పాముకి కోపం అన్నట్లుగా.. హీరోలు నేరుగా రంగంలోకి 
దిగకపోయినా.. అభిమానుల హంగామాతో గొడవ తారస్థాయికి చేరుకుంది. బాలకృష్ణ, 
నాగార్జున సినిమాలతో థియేటర్ యజమానులు చిక్కుల్లో పడ్డారు. శిరిడిసాయి 
సినిమాకోసం కూకట్ పల్లి అర్జున్ థియేటర్లో శ్రీమన్నారాయణ సినిమాని 
తీసేయడంతో.. ఏకంగా నిర్మాత, దర్శకుడు రోడ్డెక్కారు. ఒక సినిమాకోసం 
డైరెక్టర్ ప్రొడ్యూసర్ ఇద్దరూ థియేటర్ల ముందు ధర్నా చేయడం.. ఇండస్ట్రీలో 
ఇదే తొలిసారి.

సినిమాలు రాజకీయాలను కూడా టార్గెట్ చేసి వివాదానికి తెర తీశాయి. కృష్ణవందే 
జగద్గురం సినిమాలో లక్ష కోట్ల అవినీతి అంటూ పోసాని కృష్ణ మురళి చెప్పిన 
డైలాగ్.. పరోక్షంగా వైఎస్ఆర్ పార్టీ అధ్యక్షుడు జగన్‌ను ఉద్దేశించి అన్న 
వ్యాఖ్యలే అనే ప్రచారం కొనసాగింది. అవి జగన్‌ను ఉద్దేశించి అన్న డైలాగ్ 
కాదని, బళ్లారిలో గనుల అవినీతి పరుడి గురించే అని, ఓబులాపురం గనుల కేసులో 
గాలి జనార్ధన్ రెడ్డిపై అవినీతి రుజువైంది కాబట్టి.... ఆ డైలాగ్ ఆయనకు 
వర్తిస్తుందని పోసాని స్పష్టం చేసారు.

వివాదం మంచిదే కదా అనే మూవీ మేకర్లు లేకపోలేదు. సినిమాపై నెగిటివ్ గా ఏదైనా
 జరిగితే మంచి పబ్లిసిటీ వస్తుందని... దాంతో కాసులు కురుస్తాయని ఆశ పడే 
నిర్మాతలూ ఉన్నారు. అయితే సినిమా అనేది వినోదాత్మకంగా, సందేశాత్మకంగా 
ఉండాలే కాని, ప్రాంతాన్ని, మతాన్ని, ఓ భాష, ఇతరుల మనోభావాలను కించపరిచేలా 
ఉండకూడదు. సన్నివేశాల్ని నిబంధనల ప్రకారం అనుమతించాల్సిన సెన్సార్ బోర్డు 
కూడా బాధ్యతాయుతంగా వ్యవహరిస్తే వివాదాలకు కాస్తమేరకు అయినా పుల్స్టాప్ 
పెట్టవచ్చు. చీప్ పబ్లిసిటీ కోసం పాకులాడే నిర్మాతలకూ చెక్ పెట్టొచ్చు.

మొత్తానికి ఈ ఏడు వివాదాలతో గుణపాఠం నేర్చుకున్న టాలీవుడ్.. వచ్చే ఏడాది 
ప్రారంభంలో వివాదాలు లేకుండా సినిమాలు అందిస్తుందని ఆశిద్దాం.</div>

ATM ఈ పదం తెలియని వారు ఉండరు అనడంలో ఎలాంటి సందేహం లేదు. ATM... అంటే 
ఆటోమేటెడ్‌ టెల్లర్‌ మెషిన్‌ అని అర్థం. సగటు మనిషి మాత్రం ATM అంటే ఎనీ 
టైమ్‌ మనీ అని అని భావిస్తాడు. మనకు డబ్బులు అవసరమైనప్పుడు, ఎప్పుడు 
కావాలంటే అప్పుడు, ఎక్కడ కావాలంటే అక్కడ... విత్‌డ్రా చేసుకోనే మార్గం ఈ 
ATM ద్వారా సాధ్యమైంది.

అనతి కాలంలో ఏటీఎంలు దేశ వ్యాప్తంగా విస్తరించాయి. ఇటీవల ఈ ఏటీఎం అరుదైన 
ఘనత సాధించింది. అక్టోబరు చివరి నాటికి దేశంలో ATMల సంఖ్య లక్ష మార్కును 
దాటిందని నేషనల్‌ పేమెంట్‌ కార్పొరేషన్‌ ప్రకటించింది. ఏటీఎం మెషిన్‌ 
వచ్చిన తర్వాత బ్యాంకులకు వెళ్లి క్యూలో నిలబడాల్సిన పరిస్థితి లేదు. కేవలం
 డిపాజిట్లకు మాత్రమే ఇప్పుడు బ్యాంలకు వెళ్లే అవసరం ఉంటోంది. 1990 చివరలో 
మన దేశంలో ఏటీఎంలు ప్రారంభమయ్యాయి.

ప్రస్తుతం దేశంలోని మొత్తం ఏటీఎంల సంఖ్య 1,04,500లుగా గుర్తించారు. ఒక 
బ్యాంకుకు చెందిన ఏటీఎం నుంచి మరో బ్యాంకు ఖాతాదారులు డబ్బులు విత్‌ డ్రా 
చేసుకునే సౌకర్యాన్ని కూడా నేషనల్‌ పేమెంట్‌ కార్పొరేషన్‌ 
పర్యవేక్షిస్తోంది. స్టేట్‌బ్యాంకు, దాని అనుబంధ బ్యాంకులకు అత్యధికంగా 
61,500ల ఏటీఎంలు ఉన్నాయి.

అంటే దాదాపు 60 శాతం SBI గ్రూపులోనే ఉన్నాయి. ఇతర ప్రైవేటు, విదేశీ 
బ్యాంకులకు కలిపి 41,800లఏటీఎంలు ఉన్నాయి. వీటి ద్వారా ప్రతినెలా దాదాపు 20
 కోట్ల లావాదేవీలు జరుగుతున్నట్టు అంచనా. వచ్చే రెండేళ్లలో అన్ని బ్యాంకులు
 కలిపి మరో లక్ష ఏటీఎంలను ఏర్పాటు చేసేందుకు సిద్ధంఅవుతున్నట్టు సమాచారం. 
దేశంలో ప్రస్తుతం ప్రతి 10 లక్షల మంది జనాభాకు 85 ATMలు ఉన్నాయి.</div>

పేరు లేకపోవడంతో నిర్వాహకులపై తీవ్రంగా ఆగ్రహం వ్యక్తం చేసినట్లుగా 
తెలుస్తుంది. అన్ని విధాల ప్రోటోకాల్ కు అర్హుడైనుటవంటి ఆయన పేరు 
లేకపోవడంతో నిరసలు ప్రారంభమయ్యాయి. అదే విధంగా నిర్వాహణ సంఘంలో 
ఉపాధ్యక్షులుగా కొనసాగుతున్న శాసనమండలి చైర్మన్ చక్రపాణి, శాసనసభ స్వీకర్ 
నాదేండ్ల మనోహర్ పేర్లను ప్రధాన ఆహ్వానంలో ప్రస్తావించకపోవడం 
వివాదస్పదమైంది.

కాగా సిఎం మాత్రం ప్రోటోకాల్ విషయంలో తగిన జాగ్రత్తలు తీసుకోవాలని 
నిర్వాహకులకు సూచించారు. అయితే స్థానిక ఎమ్మెల్యే భూమన కరుణాకర్ రెడ్డి 
ప్రభుత్వ తీరును నిరసిస్తూ వేలాదిమందితో ప్రపంచ తెలుగు మహాసభలను 
ముట్టడిస్తామని హెచ్చరించారు. తెలంగాణ కవులు, కళాకారులు సభలను 
బహిష్కరిస్తున్నట్లు ఇదివరకే ప్రకటించారు. ఇప్పటికే ఈవిషయంలో చాలామంది 
తెలంగాణ కళాకారులు నిరసన తెలియజేశారు.

కాగా ప్రపంచ తెలుగు మహాసభలకు హాజరయ్యేందుకు వచ్చినటువంటి ఇతర దేశస్థుల 
ప్రతినిధులకు సౌకర్యం కల్పించడంలో నిర్వాహకులు విఫలమైనట్లు తెలుస్తుంది. 
ప్రతినిధులుగా తిరుపతికి చేరుకున్న వారు ఎక్కడికి వెళ్లాలో, ఎక్కడ ఉండాలో 
తెలియక  రైల్వేష్టేషన్, బస్సస్టేషన్లలో ఉండిపోయారు. వారికి ఉండడానికి వసతి

The political situation in Andhra Pradesh is currently in a rather 
volatile position and this is mainly due to the Telangana issue. Amidst 
all this, what will happen if a new political party will be formed? 
According to some sources, the chances of a new party coming into 
existence look high.

The person to make that happen is the Congress MP Kavuri Sambasiva Rao.
 It is heard that none of the attempts to pacify Kavuri have worked and 
he is reportedly working on setting up a new front. It is heard that 
Kavuri’s target is take the agenda of Samaikyandhra and gain mileage in 
the Seemandhra region.

If the speculations are true then Kavuri might make a formal 
announcement on January 1st about this. There is also a gossip that 
Kavuri is being encouraged by Lagadapati Rajagopal who is also a staunch
 Samaikyhavaadi. With the all party meet scheduled for December 28th, 
this incident will develop significance. </div>

 leader who can handle things better than the ineffective congress 
administration. There is still time for 2014 elections so it has to be 
seen how many more will join Venkata Rao.</div>

Few days back a lot of criticism came on the Telugu Desam Party and this

today threatened that none of actor Kamal Haasan's movies will be 
released, old or new, in any theatres in the state, if he goes ahead 
with his plan to release his 'Vishwaroopam' on DTH format, before 
screening in threatres.

In view of Haasan deciding to release 
'Vishwaroopam' in DTH on January 10 and in threatres the next day, 
theatre owners and their representatives across the state met here 
Wednesday to decide their future course of action.</div>

Briefing reporters on the deliberations 
of the meeting, association general secretary, Paneerselvam said theatre
 owners have already asked Haasan not to release the film on DTH, which 
would set a precedent, leading to closure of theatres.</div>

The pirated CD and new films shown in 
Television has taken a toll of audience-attendance in theatres in Tamil 
Nadu, number of which has gone down from 3,000 to 1,200 now and once a 
step like DTH becomes a precedent, there would not be any theatres in 
future, he said.</div>

For one's profit and benefit, it is not fair to bring down the entire film theatre industry..., Paneerselvam said.</div>

In case, he goes ahead with the move to 
release it on DTH before releasing it in theatres, we will not screen 
his movies, old or new, in any theatres in the state, he added.</div>

The association claimed that the actor 
has decided to release the film in theatres in other States, including 
Kerala and said it would request him not to mete out such step-motherly

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on 
Wednesday adjourned the hearing on the bail petition of Kadapa MP and 
YSR Congress president Jagan Mohan Reddy to Janauary 4.

 The High Court told Jagan's counsel 
that as the Supreme Court had given three months time to the CBI to 
complete its investigation, it would be appropriate for him to apply for
 bail after that time.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It may be recalled here that earlier the
 Special CBI court had rejected two separate petitions seeking bail. 
While the first petition was filed as a statutory right under Section 
167 (2) Cr PC, the second regular petition was filed under Section 437 
of the CrPC.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
After this, Jagan moved the High Court seeking bail on November 30.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
On Monday, the court dismissed the statutory bail plea and it adjourned hearing on the regular petition to December 26.</div>

YS Jagan  was arrested by the CBI on May 27, 2012 and is currently under judicial remand in Chanchalguda Jail in Hyderabad.</div>

famous Marina in respect to the victims of the tsunami. Tamil Nadu

by becoming the first UK royal to broadcast in 3D the traditional 
Christmas message. The Queen praised the
 
army of volunteers at the Diamond 
Jubilee and the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It is the first time the 
message  filmed at Buckingham Palace - was recorded in 3D yesterday. 
Viewers needed special glasses to watch the monarch in all her 
technological glory. The 86-year-old monarch's 3D broadcast message was 
interspersed with footage from the large-scale UK events of 2012, 'BBC 
News' reported. In her Christmas message, she said it was striking to 
see the friendship of so many people who marked her Jubilee, 
particularly during the river pageant. The Queen gave her first 
Christmas message in 1952 and her first live television broadcast on 
Christmas Day 1957. The tradition began with her grandfather George V in
 1932, when he delivered a radio broadcast written by Rudyard Kipling. 
She said the 1,000-vessel pageant on the Thames - on a wet, cold June 
day - showed a determination to celebrate triumphing over the elements. 
She earlier attended Christmas service at St Mary Magdalene Church in 
Norfolk. Her husband, sons and daughter, and many grandchildren, 
accompanied the Queen to church. Afterwards she received bouquets of 
flowers and spoke to about 70 children who had waited outside for her.</div>

Government on Wednesday set up a 
Commission of Inquiry to identify lapses and fix responsibility in the 
gang-rape of 23-year-old girl in Delhi, an issue
 
that was discussed by the Union Cabinet 
with ministers expressing concern over the incident. The one-person 
Commission, to be headed by former Delhi High Court judge Justice Usha 
Mehra, will also suggest measures to make Delhi and NCR safer for women.
 It will submit within three months its report which will be tabled in 
Parliament along with action taken by the government. The decision was 
taken at the meeting which was briefed by Home Minister Sushilkumar 
Shinde on the December 16 incident that shocked the nation and triggered
 widespread protests. At the meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan
 Singh, several ministers expressed anguish at the incident and said the
 government should walk the extra mile to ensure recovery of the victim 
and instil a sense of safety among women. While announcing the decision 
to set up the Commission, Finance Minister P Chidambaram appealed to 
public to believe that steps are being taken to find lasting solution to
 the problem that has plagued all metropolitan cities. The Commission 
will be in addition to the three-member Committee headed by former Chief
 Justice of India J S Verma which is to suggest amendments in law to 
provide for quicker trial and more stringent punishment in aggravated 
sexual assault cases amid demands for death penalty. Sharing public 
anger over the brutal incident, Chidambaram said it was a matter of 
shame that the incident happened in Delhi and the Central government has
 special responsibility. It is a shame. As a man, I feel ashamed. All of
 you here in this room should also feel ashamed. Why do men behave like 
this? We acknowledge the public anger and recognise it, Chidambaram said
 at the press conference addressed jointly with Information and 
Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari.<br />On allegations by Delhi Chief 
Minister Sheila Dikshit that Delhi Police officers had interfered in the
 process of recording of statement of the rape victim, Chidambaram said 
the Home Minister told Cabinet that an internal probe by a senior 
officer has been ordered into it. Meanwhile, the statement of the victim
 has been recorded afresh as per the legal procedures. He refused to 
comment on the confrontation between Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit
 and Police Commissioner Neeraj Kumar over developments surrounding 
recording of statement of the victim. I don't know what happened at the 
recording of statement... We have the word of the Chief Minister and we 
have the word of the Commissioner of Police... Please exercise 
restraint, wait for a few days till the result of inquiry comes, 
Chidambaram said. Asked whether the victim could be taken abroad for 
treatment, he said she is not in a condition to move but it all depends 
on doctors. Referring to protests witnessed on Rajpath over last few 
days, Chidambaram expressed sadness that the life of a constable S C 
Tomar had been lost while performing his duty and maintaining law and 
order. He said serious criminal charges have been slapped in the case 
and the matter is under investigation. To a contention that Tomar had 
not died because of violence and there should be independent probe as 
police version is suspect, the minister said the post-mortem report had 
not yet been shared with the government. He, however, maintained that 
the investigation into the death would be done by police only as it is 
its right which cannot and should not be taken away. He also expressed 
apology if any media person was harassed or beaten up while police was 
controlling the protests.<br /></div>

China today launched the world's longest
 high-speed rail line connecting capital Beijing with southern 
metropolis of Guangzhou that cuts the travel time in the 2,298-km route 
from over 20 hours to eight
 
hours, setting off a price war between 
the country's railways and airways. Two bullet trains departed from 
stations in Beijing and Guangzhou at 9 am and 10 am respectively in a 
nationally- televised ceremony.<br /> Running at an average speed of 
300-km per hour, the trains cut the travel time in 2,298-km line from 
over 20 hours to about eight hours. A total of 155 pairs of trains will 
run on the new line each day, almost a train every half-an-hour. 
Alternative schedules have been made for weekends and peak travel hours,
 according to the Ministry of Railways (MOR). There will still be 183 
pairs of trains running daily on the old Beijing-Guangzhou line that 
runs parallel to the high-speed route, allaying concerns that the new 
line would increase passengers' travel costs. China's high-speed rail 
network was established in 2007 with technology collaborations with top 
companies like Siemens. With the opening of the Beijing-Guangzhou 
high-speed line, China now has more than 9,300 km of high-speed railway 
in operation. The new line is one of four north-south lines expected to 
serve as the country's high-speed railway backbone, which also features 
four east-west lines.<br /> According to the 12th five-year plan for 
railway development, by 2015, China will have around 120,000 km of 
railway in operation, including 18,000 km of high-speed railway and an 
express railway network of 40,000 km, which allows speeds of over 160 km
 per hour, state-run Xinhua news agency reported. China now looks to 
export its high-speed technology to India and other countries. The 
collaboration was discussed during the recently held Strategic Economic 
Dialogue (SED) in New Delhi. The development of high-speed train 
corridors alleviate pressure on regular tracks which could be used for 
freight transport. The new line is expected to ease travel pressure 
during the Chinese New Year known as the Spring Festival during which 
millions of Chinese travel to their native places. <br />The new 
Beijing-Guangzhou route is the longest high speed network China has 
launched after the Beijing-Shanghai Bullet train last year which brought
 down travel time to around five hours, covering over 1300 km distance 
between two of China's largest cities. Officials say safety issues 
arising out of last year's deadly crash in which 35 people were killed 
were also addressed. The new train covers Beijing with China's most 
industrialised province of Guangdong, which houses top developed cities 
like Guangzhou close to Hong Kong and Maccau. The line is expected to be
 extended to Hong Kong by 2015. Designed with a maximum speed of 350-km 
per hour, the railway connects five provinces and has 35 stops in major 
cities, including Shijiazhuang, Zhengzhou, Wuhan and Changsha. A 
second-class seat on the new high-speed line costs 865 yuan (USD 138), 
while a sleeper on the old line sells for around 430 yuan. Reports say 
that Chinese airlines have already started feeling the pressure and 
offering tickets at prices lower than the bullet train ticket cost. It 
takes three-and-a-half hours by air to travel from Beijing to Guangzhou.
 The opening of the Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed line shows China's 
high-speed railway network has started to take shape, said Zhou Li, 
Director General of Science and Technology of the MOR. Preparations for a
 new high-speed line linking the central Chinese cities of Zhengzhou and
 Xuzhou are underway. The line will intersect the Beijing-Guangzhou 
high-speed rail line and the Beijing-Shanghai high-speed rail line, 
which started operations on June 30 last year. The rail network closely 
connects economic hubs like the Pan-Bohai economic zone, central China, 
the Yangtze River Delta economic zone and the Pearl River Delta economic
 zone and will greatly boost socio-economic development in these 
regions, said Zhou. The new Beijing-Guangzhou high-speed line will not 
only improve transportation conditions, but also cut logistics costs, 
boost the comprehensive development of land resources along the route, 
enhance the investment environment and improve economic collaboration 
and the division of labour between regions, he said.</div>

'Viswaroopam' is all set to premiere on DTH platform via Airtel digital 
TV, a day before its theatrical release.

 the movie would release in theatres on January 11, 2013, it will be
