Unmanned aircraft to boost Tirumala security

<b></b><b><span id="advenueINTEXT" name="advenueINTEXT"><div id="p-tag">Tirupati,  Oct. 12: The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Tuesday  successfully experimented with an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) to  strengthen security cover over the Tirumala hills, the abode of Lord  Venkateswara. Intelligence reports have warned that the area could be on  the radar of militant outfits. </div><div id="p-tag">The TTD chief vigilance and security officer, Mr M.K.  Singh, said the 2-kg battery-operated surveillance UAV — designed and  developed by a Bengaluru firm — was only an experiment.</div><div id="p-tag">The aerial surveillance was conducted for 45 minutes and  the vehicle returned successfully. “We will be using it regularly based  on the prevailing requirements,” he said.</div><div id="p-tag">The UAV can capture visuals within a radius of 9 km and can assist the TTD in regulating traffic and the rush of devotees. </div><div id="p-tag">This new mode of aerial surveillance is an improvement on  the helium balloon surveillance undertaken during the Salakatla  Brahmotsavams in September. </div><div id="p-tag">The TTD deployed nearly 3,000 security personnel during  the Garudotsavam, the most important day of the annual brahmotsavams,  which was also the day chosen for the UAV experiment. </div><div id="p-tag">Meanwhile, over 3 lakh devotees thronged Tirumala, abode  of Lord Venkateswara, on Tuesday night  and had the celestial glimpse of  the majestic Garudotsavam event, with chanting of Govinda Namam renting  the air and cultural activities dominating the procession that lasted  for about five hours.</div></span></b>

State to rein in MFIs with ordinance: CM

<b></b><b><span id="advenueINTEXT" name="advenueINTEXT"><div id="p-tag">Hyderabad,  Oct. 12: Maintaining that only the Reserve Bank of India could curb the  illegal activities of Micro Finance Institutions, the Chief Minister, Mr  K. Rosaiah, said on Tuesday that the state would bring an ordinance  soon to rein in the MFIs within its powers.</div><div id="p-tag">Talking to newsmen in New Delhi after meeting the Prime  Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, Mr Rosaiah said that the state government  could not ban the MFIs since they came under the category of Non-Banking  Finance Companies (NBFC) under the supervision of RBI. He assured that  the state would do whatever possible to curb harassment of individuals  by MFIs.</div><div id="p-tag">“We cannot wait till the RBI or the Centre acts on this.  Incidents of harassment of individuals are increasing daily and we are  in the process of obtaining legal opinion to bring an ordinance,’’ Mr  Rosaiah said.</div><div id="p-tag">In a separate media conference in Delhi, the minister for  rural development, Mr V. Vasanth Kumar, said that the state government  had already instructed district collectors and SPs to take action  against each incident of harassment by MFIs. He said the harassment was  mainly due to MFIs extending loan facilities to members of SHGs  sponsored by the government and encouraging dual membership.  He said  there were incidents of MFIs collecting interest at the rate of 50 per  cent.</div></span></b>

High security for ministers’ visit

<b>Sompeta (Srikakulam), Oct. 11: Tense moments prevailed in this small  town on Monday after police clamped Section 144 to prevent any untoward  incidents during the visit of local minister Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao and  Minister for Roads and Buildings Mrs Galla Aruna.<br />
Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao visited this area for the first time after the  July firing in which three farmers died while protesting against the NCC  Super Thermal Project.<br />
In view of the visit of these two ministers, the Pariyavaran  Parirakshana Samiti called for bandh on Monday. Heavy security was made  with more than a thousand police personnel including a special task  force deployed in various strategic points leading to Sompeta. The  district superintendent of police (SP), Mr Sanjay Jumar Jain, himself  supervised the security arrangements.<br />
About eight deputy superintendents of police (DSPs), 10 circle  inspectors, 50 sub-inspectors, armed police and a large number of para  military police personnel lay siege to Sompeta and were seen on all the  roads leading to this tiny town.<br />
Barbed fencing was also seen on the roads approaching Buragaon, Lakkavaram, Palasapuram, Korlam and Besiramachandrapuram.<br />
The agitation representatives led by Dr Y. Krishnamurthy could not meet the minister as the police foiled all their attempts.<br />
In several places, the farmers tried to stop the minister's convoy but  in vain. The frustrated agitators stopped a goods train at Palasapuram  level crossing for more than two hours. Later they stopped Howrah  Express at Mandasa, Prasanti Express at Summadevi and Inter City Express  at Palasa.<br />
“It is unfortunate that Mr Dharmana Prasada Rao who came for the first  time after July firing did not respond on the power project,” said Dr  Krishnamurthy who has been leading the agitation.</b>

<div id="p-tag"><b>Vijayawada, Oct. 12: Circular trains are to be introduced  by the railways between Vijayawada-Guntur-Tenali from Wednesday. On  purchase of a Rs 5 ticket, one can travel either from Vijayawada to  Guntur or from Vijayawada to Tenali by passenger train.</b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>The RTC collects Rs 17 for passenger buses, Rs 23 for  non-stop buses and Rs 27 for Volvo buses. Similar is the case for Tenali  town also.</b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>With the doubling of the track between Vijayawada and  Guntur, the railways can increase services between Vijayawada and  Guntur. The Guntur-Tenali track doubling works are pending for a long  time. Land acquisition is the biggest hurdle being faced by the railways  in this regard.</b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>The Chief Minister, Mr. K. Rosaiah, will flag off the  circular train at 11.30 am at Vijayawada railway station on Wednesday.  The circular train will have eight compartments with a capacity to  transport 1000 passengers. However, the passengers are disappointed with  the timings of the circular trains.</b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>Vijayawada-Guntur is one of the busiest bus routes in  coastal Andhra. But the railways introduced only one circular train and  that too at 4 pm from Vijayawada to Guntur. If the timing is changed to  morning, a large number of passengers would be benefited.Similarly,  running of a circular train between Guntur and Vijayawada in the morning  will benefit a large number of passengers. Running of circular trains  in the early hours will be useful to shift agricultural products,  vegetables and leaves to Guntur and Vijayawada.</b></div>

<b></b><b>The Karnataka High Court quashed the hopes of five Independent MLAs of Karnataka, in the ongoing political drama. The Karnataka BJP Government  lead by Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa recently went into a ‘Trust  Vote’ as atleast 19 MLA rebelled against the CM. The State Assembly  Speaker disqualified 11 BJP MLAs and five Independent MLAs from voting in the Trust Vote. As a result the Chief Minister won the vote or so it was declared by the Speaker.<br />

However, the opposition parties, lead by JD Leader Kumara Swami said  that the Trust Vote was done in an unconstitutional manner. The Governor  HR Bharadwaj too recommended Presidential Rule in Karnataka, as he  deemed the Karnataka Government had failed.<br />

Or else, we will take serious action against him and  his film,” Anandapuram residents warned.<br />
