The State government had taken a decision to scrap the VAT
(Value Added Tax) on films. It is worth mentioning here that the film industry
circles had been demanding the scrapping of VAT for the past some time and the
State Producers Council and the State Film Federation had met the Chief
Minister several times and submitted memorandums. The Chief Minister positively
responded to those representations recently and agreed to scrap the VAT on
films recently. As per the available information, government orders to this
effect would be released soon.<br /></div>

<li>Heat the olive oil in a pan.</li>
<li>Add the garam masala</li>
<li>Then add all the chopped onion, pumpkin, tomatoes & carrots.</li>
<li>Saute for about 5-6 minutes.</li>
<li>Remove from pan & microwave on high for 4 minutes</li>
<li>Once the vegetables or soft, blend all of them in a blender or mixi.</li>
<li>Strain the mixture, by drizzling water on it from time to time and 
extracting all the vegetable juice from the dregs, to the maximum 
possible extent.</li>
<li>Pour the blended stock into a flat bottomed pan & let it boil for 10 minutes.</li>
<li>Then add salt, pepper, amchur powder, cornflour & maragrine.</li>
<li>Allow it to boil for another 5 minutes.</li>
<li>Garnish with coriander, mint & creamed corn.</li>
<li>Serve hot.</li>

Eating egg yolks 'may help improve blood lipids'

Including whole eggs as part of a weight loss diet may have positive effects on <span class="GRcorrect" id="GRmark_93d08d237607653574e434aa59f0034d485aac9b_lipoprotein:0">lipoprotein</span> profiles for individuals with metabolic syndrome, a new study has suggested.
 
<br />
In this study, middle-aged men and women with metabolic syndrome 
consumed either three whole eggs or an equivalent amount of egg 
substitute daily as part of a carbohydrate-restricted, weight loss diet.<br />

Although participants eating the whole eggs were <span class="GRcorrect" id="GRmark_aac205dbfc4fc6c963f4484782de6c862e438807_consuming:0">consuming</span>
 twice as much cholesterol as they had at the beginning of the study, 
the researchers observed no effects on total blood cholesterol or LDL 
cholesterol levels after 12 weeks on the diet.<br />

All participants, including those consuming whole eggs, had improved 
lipid profiles with decrease in plasma triglycerides and increases in 
HDL cholesterol.<br />

"Eating egg yolks <span class="GRcorrect" id="GRmark_c1773e18bd0e2b6f8e326369c030d34b50af272b_was actually associated:0">was actually associated</span>
 with enhanced health benefits in these high-risk individuals," Dr. 
Maria Luz Fernandez, lead author of the study from the University of 
Connecticut, said.<br />

"Subjects consuming whole eggs had greater increases in HDL 
cholesterol and more significant reductions in the LDL/HDL cholesterol 
ratio than those who ate the cholesterol-free egg substitute," she said.<br />

Naturally nutrient-rich, one large egg provides varying amounts of 13
 essential vitamins and minerals, including nutrients that aren't found 
abundantly in other foods, including vitamin D and <span class="GRcorrect" id="GRmark_ec55beb38099452898e0cfbd594e2bf3b1bfab7b_choline:0">choline</span>.<br />

Many of these nutrients reside in the yolk like lutein and 
zeaxanthin, which are antioxidants that may prevent macular degeneration
 and consequent age-related blindness.<br />

While eggs contain only small amounts of these nutrients, research shows that lutein and zeaxanthin from eggs may be more <span class="GRcorrect" id="GRmark_fb5334e0ef43e6b1e53b5f0c6f9871829e88a882_bioavailable:0">bioavailable</span>, or better used by the body, than from more concentrated sources like supplements.<br />

Weight management is a crucial aspect of preventing and managing chronic diseases like metabolic syndrome.<br />

Commercial ads for a popular brand of women's underwear, which claim 
to melt fat or reshape the body using infra-red energy, are the subject 
of a complaint to the Therapeutic Products Advertising Complaints 
resolution panel.

Dr Ken Harvey from La Trobe University has questioned some assertions in the underwear ads as "pseudo science" and "ludicrous".<br />

South Australian company Brazcomm Imports distributes Scala Shapewear
 undergarments and claims that the underwear contains 
"ActiveBioCrystals" that "emit Far Infra Red" energy rays.<br />

According to the ad, the rays kick-start what is known as the BioPromise effect.<br />

One ad says this can reduce signs of cellulite and melt fat away.<br />

Brazcomm imports managing director Dr Tim Nielsen said that more than
 500,000 sets of the items have been sold in Australia, and that the 
popularity and success of the product was testament to its 
effectiveness.<br />

However, Dr Harvey, who was awarded the Choice magazine consumer champion award of 2012, is unconvinced.<br />

"It's classic pseudoscience with words that look like they might mean something," News.com.au quoted Dr Harvey as saying.<br />

"It's ludicrous," he said.<br />

In his complaint, Dr Harvey claims that the ads contain statements 
that cannot be verified, and likely to mislead, exploit the lack of 
knowledge on the part of the consumers.<br />

Dr Harvey concluded by saying that he could not find scientific 
evidence on medical databases to substantiate terms used in the ad like 
BioPromise, Biocrystals and Far Infra Red Rays.<br />

"None of this stuff has ever been written about scientifically," he said.<br />

ripens is good for a healthy gut, helps slow arthritis, and can slow the
 signs of ageing, such as cellulite, according to Cambridge-based 
biotech company Lycotec.</div>

 the blue cheese worked best in acidic environments, such as the lining 
of the stomach, the 'Daily Mail' reported.</div>

Roquefort, Camembert and other moulded fermented cheeses could be one of

important as we look for depth and new experiences later in life," she

First and foremost, young women between 18 and 24 want a man they can
 show off to their friends. 47 percent said they would look for a 
relationship with someone their friends would approve of.<br />

As they forge ahead in their careers, women of ages 25 to 34 begin to
 take a more long-term view, but are still susceptible to a dashing man;
 physical attraction is more important than ever.<br />

Sexual compatibility is more important to this age group, than at any other stage in their lives.<br />

As they look to settle down, women aged 35-44 are most likely to have
 their head turned by an older man. 73 percent would be willing to date

Researchers from Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) collaborated with the National Cancer Institute for the study.<br /><br />"We
 found that adding low amounts of physical activity to one's daily 
routine, such as 75 minutes of brisk walking per week, was associated 
with increased longevity: a gain of 1.8 years of life expectancy after 
age 40, compared with doing no such activity," explained I-Min Lee, MD, 
associate epidemiologist in the Department of Preventive Medicine at BWH
 and senior author on this study.<br /><br />"Physical activity above this 
minimal level was associated with additional gains in longevity. For 
example, walking briskly for at least 450 minutes a week was associated 
with a gain of 4.5 years. Further, physical activity was associated with
 greater longevity among persons in all BMI groups: those normal weight,
 overweight, and obese," Lee added.<br /><br />In pooled data from six 
prospective cohort studies, the researchers examined associations of 
leisure-time physical activity of a moderate to vigorous intensity with 
mortality. They analysed data from more than 650,000 subjects and 
followed subjects for an average of ten years- analysing over 82,000 
deaths.<br /><br />The large sample size allowed them to estimate years of 
life gained after the age of 40 among persons with different levels of 
physical activity and BMI.<br /><br />The findings show that physical 
activity was associated with longer life expectancies across a range of 
activity levels and BMI groups. Participation in a low level of leisure 
time physical activity of moderate to vigorous intensity, comparable to 
up to 75 min of brisk walking per week, was associated with a 19 percent
 reduced risk of mortality compared to no such activity.<br /><br />Assuming
 a causal relationship, which is not specifically demonstrated in this 
research, this level of activity would confer a 1.8 year gain in life 
expectancy after age 40, compared with no activity.<br /><br />For those who
 did the equivalent to 150 min of brisk walking per week-the basic 
amount of physical activity currently recommended by the federal 
government-the gain in life expectancy was 3.4 years.<br /><br />These 
benefits were seen in both men and women, and among white and black 
participants. Importantly, they were also observed among persons who 
were normal weight, overweight, and obese.<br /><br />Participants faring 
best were those who were both normal weight and active: among normal 
weight persons who were active at the level recommended by the federal 
government, researchers observed a gain in life expectancy of 7.2 years,
 compared to those with a BMI of 35 or more who did no leisure time 
physical activity (a 5 ft 5 in tall person with BMI of 35 weighs 210 
lb).<br /><br />"Our findings reinforce prevailing public health messages 
promoting both a physically active lifestyle and a normal body weight," 
explained Dr. Steven C. Moore, PhD, research fellow at the National 
Cancer Institute (NCI) and lead author of this study.<br /><br />This 
findings may also help convince currently inactive persons that even 
being modestly active is "worth it" for greater longevity, even if it 
may not result in weight control.<br /><br />The study will soon be published in PLOS Medicine.</div>

Researchers at the University of Washington (UW) developed the condom
 from tiny microfibres through a method called ‘electrospinning’.<br />

The cloth-like fibres can be woven from medicine into extremely thin 
‘webs’. They are then designed to dissolve after use, either within 
minutes or over several days.<br />

The team was given USD 1 million to develop the technology, which 
uses an electric field to charge fluid through air to create the very 
fine, nanometre-sized fibres.<br />

“Our dream is to create a product women can use to protect themselves
 from HIV infection and unintended pregnancy,” Kim Woodrow, a UW 
assistant professor of bioengineering, said.<br />

“We have the drugs to do that. It’s really about delivering them in a
 way that makes them more potent, and allows a woman to want to use it,”
 Woodrow said.<br />

“This method allows controlled release of multiple compounds. We were
 able to tune the fibres to have different release properties,” 
co-author Cameron Ball said.<br />

One of the fabrics dissolves within minutes, offering users immediate
 protection, while another fabric dissolves gradually over a few days, 
providing an alternative to the birth-control pill, to provide 
contraception and protect against Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).<br />

While the researchers agree the technology is more discrete, they admit that people may have some doubts.<br />

German scientists studied the part of the brain responsible for 
keeping information in the mind while using it to complete a task, 
critical for understanding, reasoning, problem solving and decision 
making.<br />

In the first research of its kind, they asked 28 men - all 
heterosexual with an average age of 26 - to look at a number of computer
 images, some pornographic and some nonsexual.<br />

The clean images included pictures of people doing a number of activities, like laughing, playing sports or carrying a weapon.<br />

The men logged a significantly greater number of incorrect answers 
when they viewed the porn than when they saw the nonsexual images.<br />

On an average, they answered correctly 67 percent of the time when 
they viewed pornographic pictures, which rose to 80 percent when they 
saw the clean pictures.<br />

According to researchers at the University of Duisburg-Essen, the 
findings could help psychologists understand why some people with 
internet porn addictions forget to sleep, miss appointments, shirk job 
responsibilities and neglect relationships.<br />

"Sexual arousal and its impacts on cognitive processes might explain 
parts of these negative effects," the Daily Mail quoted the researchers 
as writing.<br />

Foam injection stops internal bleeding

The spray foam developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects 
Agency (DARPA) can be used to stop internal bleeding, particularly in 
the abdominal cavity which is life threatening because there is little 
that can be done to stop the bleeding, Discovery News reported.<br />

DARPA is hoping that their new foam can help the wounded survive until they get to treatment facilities.<br />

The polyurethane polymer foam is designed by Arsenal Medical as part 
of DARPA's Wounded Stasis Program and it can be injected by a field 
medic in two liquid phases, a polyol phase and an isocyanate phase. When
 the liquids mix, they expand to 30 times their original volume.<br />

As it expands, the foam fills the abdominal cavity and conforms to 
the surface of the injured tissue and organs. The foam then hardens, 
providing resistance to intra-abdominal blood loss.<br />

DARPA claimed the foam could even expand through pooled and clotted blood.<br />

Researchers found that removal of the foam took less than one minute 
after an incision by a surgeon. Only minimal amounts of the foam 
remained in the abdominal cavity and no significant amount of tissue 
stuck to the foam.<br />

educated and happier than average people, while rose drinkers are the 
unquestioned kings and queens of social networking, visiting sites like 
Facebook multiple times every day on an average.<br />

White wine drinkers are home-lovers who enjoy a holiday in the UK and are content with their position on the career ladder.<br />

"They say you can tell a lot about someone from their favourite 
tipple, and it seems that it is definitely the case when it comes to 
wine," the Daily Mail quoted a spokesman for French Wines with Style, 
which commissioned the report, as saying.<br />

"From the study it looks as though those with certain personality traits are drawn to certain styles of wine," he said.<br />

The survey of 2,000 adults looked into everything from earnings and career prospects to personal attributes.<br />

More than half of red wine drinkers are university graduates, and they typically earn between 40-45,000 pounds per year.<br />

And while 81 percent are currently happy at work, 65 percent are 
still highly ambitious and want to scale higher up the career ladder.<br />

In comparison, a white wine drinker pockets around 25-30,000 pounds 
per year, with just 43 percent having attended university, and most are 
not very interested in the corporate ladder, with more than two fifths

The study involved growing malignant breast epithelial cells within a gel injected into flexible silicone chambers.<br />

This allowed the scientists to apply compression during the first 
stages of cell growth, effectively squashing the cells, the 'Daily Mail'

Over time, the squeezed malignant cells began to grow in a more 
normal and organised way. Once the breast tissue structure was formed 
the cells stopped growing, even when the compressive force was removed. 
Non-compressed cells continued to display the haphazard and uncontrolled
 growth that leads to cancer.<br />

"Malignant cells have not completely forgotten how to be healthy; 
they just need the right cues to guide them back to a healthy growth

It was a launch a newcomer would only dream of. And the dream came 
true for singer Aaryan, who was introduced to the world through the 
father - daughter duo of filmmakers Mahesh and Pooja Bhatt here.

Aaryan's first music video called "Ranjhann" was uploaded online a 
few weeks ago. It attracted as many as 5 million views. The singer's 
melodious voice caught the attention of Dubai-based Indian businessman 
Shiraz Gidwani, who decided to launch the fresh talent.<br />

The 25-year-old Indore boy was introduced through a grand celebration at the Burj Khalifa here.<br />

"I like his innocence. The YouTube video of Aaryan's song was 
uploaded the same day when Salman Khan's 'Dabangg 2' song 'Dagabaaz re' 
was released. And Aaryan's song managed to get around 5.3 million hits, 
which is commendable," said Pooja.<br />

Pooja, who is mesmerized by Aaryan's voice, has already decided to take one of his songs in her next film.<br />

"I have already requested Aaryan to give me one of his songs for my 
next film. It's such a beautiful song," said the 
actress-turned-director.<br />

Aryan says a launchpad like this is a dream come true for him. The 
singer seemed nervous, but still managed to mesermerise the audience 
with his songs during his performance.<br />

"Honestly, I was very nervous on stage. This was such a huge launch 
for me, it's like a dream come true. For me music is my passion, which 
has got me here and thanks to bhaiya (Shiraz Gidwani), who believed in 
me and thanks to Mahesh and Pooja Bhatt, who are here for me," Aaryan 
said<br />

Aaryan has trained under music composer duo Sajid-Wajid's father Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan.<br />

"I have trained under him. Even Sajid-Wajid were often there to help 
me whenever I needed them. It was an amazing experience and I got an 
opportunity to learn so much from them," said Aaryan, who can also play 
guitar, harmonium and piano.<br />

The actor came down heavily upon them for creating differences between his uncle, Power star Pawan Kalyan and his mega family. <br /><br />He

received 'U' certificate. Ravi Teja's next outing Sarocharu is the 
latest movie to get 'U' certificate from the Board, which is announced 
as a clean entertainer. <br /><br />Sarocharu is a romantic comedy 
entertainer, which is directed by Parasuram and produced by Priyanka 
Dutt. Ravi Teja is playing a role of football coach, while Kajal 
Aggarwal and Richa Gangopadhyay appear as his love interests. <br /><br />Baanam

much-awaited Telugu movie Sarocharu has been watched by the officials of
 the Censor Board on Tuesday, December 18.<br /><br />The Censors were very

Prastanam’ padayatra last week underwent surgery at the Apollo Hospital 
on Tuesday.

According to a medical bulletin issued 
by the hospital, she is recovering well. A keyhole surgery was performed
 as there were significant injuries and ligament tear in the knee. She 
was under observation in the post-operative ward and would be shifted to
 a room later.  She would require a prolonged period of rest to recover 
during which she will also undergo intensive physiotherapy. Other 
options such as cell therapy are being considered, the bulletin said.</div>

With over 350 drug rackets unearthed 
till October this year that saw arrest of as many as 813 accused, Andhra
 Pradesh Police will intensify campaign against drug traffickers by 
launching raids.
 
Police have drawn up short and long term
 plans to control narcotics menace and say their proposed action will 
see arrest of more number of drug racketeers, users and suppliers. With 
the arrest of some Tollywood actors (Telugu movie industry) on charge of
 consumption of cocaine in the past, police said they will also be 
keeping a track on such film personalities. <br />
Apart from keeping a 
close watch on pubs, resorts and other points of drug addicts ahead of 
the New Year, police have stepped up their crackdown by deploying more 
decoy teams in Hyderabad city to catch hold of drug traffickers, users 
and peddlers red-handed, CID Additional Director General of Police T 
Krishna Prasad told PTI. Police will also be using dog squads to check 
vehicles and buildings in connection with its drive. <br />
Besides, 
checkposts will be set up and surprise raids will be conducted under the
 Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits, he said. The 
next step to deal with narcotics will be by carrying out series of more 
and specific raids by the district Superintendents of Police across the 
state, Prasad explained. <br />
These measures will see more arrests and 
seizures which will ultimately help in controlling the drug menace, the 
top CID officer said, adding that as part of the proposed drive, police 
will focus more against narcotics while they were till now preoccupied 
with law and order duty. <br />
 If any drug is found in a vehicle or a 
building, the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 
provides with a facility to attach such properties or vehicles, Prasad 
said. Warning of stern measures against drug users, Prasad appealed to 
public, particularly students and youngsters not to indulge in drug 
abuse, as the punishment under NDPS Act was imprisonment up to 20 years.
 If repeated, the offence carries death penalty under the Act, he added.

The number of arrests in drug cases has seen an increase during 
2012 with as many as 813 accused including 7 foreigners (hailing from 
Nigeria and other foreign countries) being nabbed from across the state 
till October this year, as compared to around 600 accused including 11 
foreign nationals held last year. While 394 drug cases were registered 
in 2011, as many as 365 cases have been booked till October this year. <br />
Apart
 from seizing cocaine, police also recovered about 18,319 kg 'ganja' and
 5 kg brown sugar during this year as compared to 15,668 kg 'ganja' 
seized in 2011. Investigators dealing with drug cases had earlier found 
that drug racketeers were not only operating from Hyderabad, but their 
gangs were carrying out operations from Delhi, Mumbai and other places 
from where they were procuring the narcotics substances. <br />
In 2010, 
the Hyderabad Police had busted several drug-racket networks involving 
Nigerian and Ugandan nationals. It had also helped them in exposing the 
drug mafia-Tollywood link after the arrested reportedly revealed that 
their clients included actors and actresses from Telugu film industry 
and important personalities from posh localities of Hyderabad. </div>
