Greater Hyderabad is short  of two 400 KV, six 220 KV, ten 132 KV and four dozen 33 KV electricity  sub-stations.</div><div id="p-tag">The existing power infrastructure is overloaded, resulting  in frequent breakdowns in supply. What’s more, there is only one  workshop to repair transformers, located at Erragadda, which is why it  takes so long for transformers to be repaired. A second workshop  proposed in the old city has remained on paper. </div><div id="p-tag"><br />

<b></b><div id="p-tag"><b> Telangana  Praja Front chief Gaddar took the Telangana Rashtra Samithi head-on by  launching his campaign for Telangana state from Mahbubnagar  Parliamentary constituency represented by the TRS president, Mr K. <b><i></i></b><b><i><span id="advenueINTEXT" name="advenueINTEXT"><div class="article-block" id="article-block"><div id="p-tag">  Student unions and teaching and non-teaching associations have launched  ‘Save University of Hyderabad campaign’ ahead of the Prime Minister, Dr  Manmohan Singh’s visit to the campus on October 19 to lay the  foundation stone of the prestigious Tata Institute of Fundamental  Research (TIFR).</div><div id="p-tag">The unions and associations are opposing the allotment of  land on the HCU campus to various public and private institutions  including the 210 acres allotted to TIFR for its campus. </div><div id="p-tag">They allege that in just five years, HCU Vice-Chancellor,  Prof Seyed Hasnain, has attempted to give away more than 1,000 acres of  land.</div><div id="p-tag">The signature campaign initiated by social science  professor, Mr Sudhakar Reddy, has collected 800 signatures in a week.  The signatories are from the university, and sympathisers at other  Indian universities and abroad.</div><div id="p-tag">The unions will stage a peaceful demonstration on October  19 and submit a representation to the Prime Minister demanding a halt to  land deals and a thorough review of land deals and cancellation of  unjustified deals.</div><div id="p-tag">“All campuses of TIFR in Mumbai, Pune and Bengaluru put  together are situated on land not exceeding 75 acres. Why does TIFR  require 210 acres in Hyderabad?” asked Mr Reddy.</div><div id="p-tag">When it was established in 1974, the government of Andhra  Pradesh provided 2,324 acres of land to the university in the ‘green  belt’ area of Hyderabad.</div><div id="p-tag">“The university has alienated more than a third of its  land, used up another third, and the remaining has to be preserved to  protect the environment. Where is the land for future expansion?” asked  Dr Purendra Prasad, assistant professor, department of sociology, HCU.</div><div id="p-tag">Prof Hasnain said the campaign is based on deliberate  misinformation. He said nearly 780 acres of university land was  allocated to various institutions by the Andhra Pradesh government even  prior to 2006.</div><div id="p-tag">He clarified that from 2006 to date only 488.28 acres has  been allotted through government orders and with the unanimous approval  of the university’s executive council.</div></div></span></i></b><br />

<div id="p-tag"><b>Hyderabad, </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b> In an effort to rein in unscrupulous  microfinance institutions, the state government has prohibited women  self help group members availing loans from multiple sources, which  often lands them in a debt trap.</b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>The Governor, Mr E.S.L. Narasimhan, cleared on Friday the  ordinance to rein in MFIs, which also restricts women from becoming  members in more than one SHG.</b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>Further, the ordinance warns that Micro Finance  Institutions should on no account collect interest which exceeds the  principal amount of the loan.</b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>Several suicides had occurred in the state in recent weeks  after agents of MFIs harassed borrowers for delaying repayment of one  or two instalments. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>MFIs, as expected, are not amused by the ordinance and cautioned the government against the move.</b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>Call 155321 for complaints against MFIS</b></div>

<b>Three years prior to the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the FBI was  warned of the strikes and David Headley's links with the LeT by the wife  of the Pakistani-American terrorist, says an investigative report. </b> <br />
<div id="p-tag"><b>"Three years before Pakistani terrorists struck Mumbai in  2008, federal agents in New York City investigated a tip that an  American businessman was training in Pakistan with the group that later  executed the attack," according to the report on the 26/11 attacks  published by ProPublica, an independent, non-profit newsroom engaged in  investigative journalism in the public interest. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>"The previously undisclosed allegations against David  Coleman Headley, who became a key figure in the plot that killed 166  people, came from his wife after a domestic dispute that resulted in his  arrest in 2005," the report said. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>In three interviews with federal agents, Headley's wife  said he was an active militant in Lashkar-e-Tayyaba, had trained  extensively in its Pakistani camps and had shopped for night vision  goggles and other equipment, the report investigated by Sebastian  Rotella of ProPublica said citing officials and sources close to the  case. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>A version of the investigative report released yesterday  by ProPublica -- which is supported entirely by philanthropy and  provides the articles it produces, free of charge, both through its  website and to leading news organisations -- was also published by the  online edition of 'The Washington Post'. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>There was no immediate response from the FBI on the authenticity of the report. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>"The handling of the Headley case calls into question the  progress of American law enforcement and intelligence agencies in  improving their coordination and ability to 'connect the dots' and deter  attacks. It also raises questions about a complicated relationship  between American authorities and a confessed terrorist," ProPublica  said. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>Headley's wife, whom ProPublica is not identifying to  protect her safety, also told agents that Headley had bragged of working  as a paid US informant while he trained with the terrorists in  Pakistan, according to a person close to the case, the report said. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>Headley is currently in a Chicago prison after he was  arrested by the FBI agents last year on charges of involvement in the  Mumbai terrorist attacks. He confessed to his role in the strikes under a  plea bargain. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>"Federal officials say the FBI 'looked into' the tip, but  they declined to say what, if any, action was taken. Headley was jailed  briefly in New York on charges of domestic assault but was not  prosecuted. He wasn't arrested until 11 months after the Mumbai attack,  when British intelligence alerted US authorities that he was in contact  with al-Qaeda operatives in Europe," the report said. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>ProPublica said that in the four years between his wife's  warning and Headley's capture, the LeT sent Headley on reconnaissance  missions around the world. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>During five trips to Mumbai, he scouted targets for the  attack - using his US passport and cover as a businessman to circulate  freely in areas frequented by Westerners. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>He met in Pakistan with terrorist handlers, including a  Pakistani army major accused of helping direct and fund his missions,  the report said, citing court documents and anti-terrorism officials. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>According to ProPublica investigations, it is not clear  from the available information whether a different response to the tip  about Headley might have averted the Mumbai attacks. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>"It is known that US anti-terrorism officials warned  Indian counterparts several times in 2008 about a possible attack on  Mumbai, according to US and Indian officials. </b></div><div id="p-tag"><b>"The warnings included details, such as a threat to the  iconic Taj Mahal hotel, which became a target, officials say," the  report said.</b></div>
