<b><span id="advenueINTEXT" name="advenueINTEXT"><div class="article-block" id="article-block"><div id="p-tag">Hyderabad,  Oct 9: Balladeer Gaddar on Saturday said the agitation with which he is  planning to achieve Telangana would be led by an 84-member steering  committee.</div><div id="p-tag">The committee was elected at a meeting on Saturday which also elected Gaddar as president of Telangana Praja Front.</div><div id="p-tag">The meeting also elected an 84-member steering committee, which, Gaddar said, would lead the agitation.</div><div id="p-tag">Gaddar made it clear that the TPF was not a political  party but a ‘political force’ and it would not commit the mistake of  focusing on elections.</div><div id="p-tag">“We will agitate within the framework of our  Constitution,” he said, deviating from his pro-Maoist stance of power  through the barrel of the gun. “We will seek the support of all  like-minded parties and will force the Centre to introduce a bill in  ensuing winter session of Parliament in December.”</div><div id="p-tag">Gaddar gave enough indications that the TPF would not take part in elections as was done by other T-parties</div><div id="p-tag">A Maoist sympathiser who survived an attempt on his life,  Gaddar had consistently opposed democratic form of elections but had  kept away from underground activities for a long while.</div><div id="p-tag">“We want self respect, self-rule, and our resources,” he  said. “The Congress government had cheated and betrayed people of  Telangana. Kings XI Punjab, Rajasthan Royals scrapped from IPL-IV

<b>Mumbai: In a drastic step, the Indian Cricket Board (BCCI) on Sunday  unanimously decided to “terminate” the franchise agreements of Rajasthan  Royals and Kings XI Punjab, while sparing the newly-inducted Kochi  team.<br />
The Kochi franchisee has been issued a notice, asking them to resolve all their disputes.<br />
The decision means that the fourth edition of the Indian Premier League  will feature eight teams for the time being despite the addition of two  new teams in Kochi and Pune.<br />
The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the IPL governing council at MCA Recreation Centre here.<br />
“It was unanimously decided that the franchise agreements with K P H  Dream Cricket Pvt Ltd (Kings XI) and Jaipur IPL Cricket Pvt Ltd  (Rajasthan Royals) be terminated forthwith based on the legal opinions  obtained by the BCCI in the matters,” the BCCI said in a release.<br />
“It was further unanimously decided to issue a notice to the  unincorporated joint venture holding the Kochi franchise calling upon  them to resolve all their disputes and form a company which will hold  the IPL franchise rights.”<br />
“Accordingly, Mr P.R. Raman, the advocate for the BCCI has been given  instructions to issue all the three notices,” the BCCI said.<br />
The three franchise teams — Rajasthan Royals, Kings Eleven Punjab and  newly-bought Kochi — were given the show cause notices by the BCCI on  September 29 as they had not complied with the rules governing the  franchisers.</b>

Ramalinga Raju, the prime accused in the multi-crore Satyam fraud case,  for over two hours.</b> <br />
<b>The disgraced founder and former chairman of the Satyam Computer  Services Limited, who was discharged Saturday from a hospital, arrived  at the CBI’s regional office before 10 a.m. and left around noon. He  refused to answer any query from waiting journalists. This is the first  time in nearly a year that the CBI has questioned Raju, who has been  avoiding interrogation and appearance in the court on grounds of  ill-health.Raju, who was granted bail by the Andhra Pradesh High Court  Aug 18, was Saturday discharged from the Nizam’s Institute of Medical  Sciences (NIMS), where he was undergoing treatment for hepatitis C for  the past 10 months.The CBI Monday issued notice to Raju to appear before  it. The court, while granting him bail, also laid down the condition  that he should appear before the CBI whenever asked to do so and  cooperate with the investigations.The CBI officials questioned Raju to  clear some “pending doubts” about the earlier interrogation in the  Rs.14,000 crore scam. He was also questioned in connection with the  diversion of Satyam funds abroad.The CBI is likely to question the  remaining nine accused who are also on bail.The federal agency has  already moved the Supreme Court, seeking cancellation of bail granted to  Raju and others.Raju, 56, had been in jail since January last year when  he admitted to a Rs.7,800 crore accounting fraud in the Satyam.While  resigning as chairman of the firm, he confessed on Jan 7 that the  company cooked its books resulting in an “inflated (non-existent) cash  and bank balances” over several years.The CBI told the court in November  last year that the scam was worth over Rs.14,000 crore.</b>

Orderly growth of film industry

<span style="font-size: small;">Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting,  Government of India, Shri Raghu Menon today assured the film industry  stake holders that the Government of India would make all efforts to  facilitate healthy and orderly growth of the film industry and the media  industry as a whole. Shri Menon was delivering the keynote address at  the ‘India-The Big Picture’ Conference today at Panaji, organized in  participation with the Confederation of Indian Industry on the sidelines  of the 40th International Film Festival at Goa.<br />
<br />
The Secretary, Shri Raghu Menon noted that issues discussed at the  daylong Conference focusing on the subject ‘Strengthening Domestic Film  Business & IPR’ are bound to have long term bearings for the future.  He said that the media sector has had a robust growth of 13 per cent  increase annually and a Compounded Annual Growth Rate of 13 per cent but  ‘big is good but not enough’ he added. He said the film industry needs a  candid introspection on problems faced by the industry to arrive at  appropriate remedial measures and course correction. The Secretary  advised that it is no use if the sector becomes unprofessional and  commercially unviable. He said a reality check is important and the  producers need to take a hard look at their talent and project cost. He  acknowledged that piracy is the biggest threat to the entertainment  industry and the Government on its part is taking steps for effective  enforcement of the laws.<br />

Shri Raghu Menon informed that the piracy issue would also be discussed  in detail at the forthcoming Conference of the State Information  Ministers’ scheduled in Delhi on December 05, 2009. The Secretary stated  that while the Government will take punitive action, the entertainment  industry itself should take preventive action to create awareness among  the people at large to boycott pirated products. Shri Menon also  complimented the stake holders noting that India has emerged as a  favourite service destination for animation, gaming and visual effects.  He said while the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting has the  resources to set up the Centre for Excellence in animation, gaming and  visual effects, the stakeholders should feel free to contribute with the  necessary expertise to set up the Centre.<br />

Delivering the special address Shri Manmohan Shetty, President, The Film  & Television Producers Guild of India Ltd. pointed out that media  entrepreneurs need to re-look the multiplex ticket-costing,  talent-signing amounts to ensure control in prices for affordable  expenditure on cinema-viewing for an average Indian family. Shri Bobby  Bedi, MD, Kaleidoscope Entertainment & Member of Jury, IFFI Goa also  in his address highlighted the need to control the Frankenstein growth  of multiplexes and big production houses to ensure that film making is  not rendered economically unviable and in turn encouraging the average  viewer to watch pirated CDs of films instead.<br />

The Chief Minister of Goa, Shri Digambar V. Kamat in his inaugural  address urged the Conference deliberations to work out a road map to  control piracy as also to promote film culture. He invited the film  industry to explore the tremendous potential of growth of entertainment  industry in Goa. On his part he assured all support from the Government  of Goa.<br />

The Remotely Operable  Vehicle (ROV), developed by the National Institute of Ocean Technology  (NIOT) in association with Russia-based Experimental Design Bureau of  Oceanological Engineering (EDBOE), will study polymetallic nodules, a  rich source of iron and manganese hydroxides, at a water depth of nearly  6000 mts.<br />

According to marine scientists, ROVs are becoming the primary tool for  studying the bio-diversity of the deepest oceanic eco-systems and a key  technology in Census research. They are linked to a surface support  research vessel that controls their underwater activity and transports  them to and from the research site.<br />

The Indian ROV is operational at the Poly-Metallic Nodule (PMN) site  that has been alloted to the country by the International Sea Bed  Authority (ISBA) of United Nations. "This is a huge feat for India.<br />

It means that we are one of the very few nations with this capability  apart from United States, France, Japan, Russia and possibly China,"  NIOT director Atmanand told  PTI. The total resources estimated are of the order of 380 million  metric tons and for this, remotely operable vehicles are the key for  observations and exploration of mineral wealth, a study by the  Chennai-based NIOT indicates. Polymetallic nodules, also called  manganese nodules, are rock concretions on the sea bottom formed of  concentric layers of iron and manganese hydroxides around a core.<br />
<br />
Data such as temperature, sound velocity, conductivity, density and  dissolved oxygen were also collected during the various trials, while  numerous photographs were also taken. "As of now, the ROV has been  taking photographs and core samples from the designated area.<br />
<br />
It would be next made operational in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin  where gas hydrates exist under the sea bed. However, it will be used in  that region after a detailed survey," Atmanand said.<br />
<br />
Project Director, Ramadass, said, "In last six months, we have been working on video picture quality enhancement and identifying suitable sensors to make it more useful." The ROV is stationed and launched  from on-board one of India''s key Ocean Research Vessel ''Sagar Nidhi  1'', a state-of-the-art research vessel with dynamic positioning  capabilities.</span>

The defence satellites would be indigenously built and launched from home soil only given the security sensitivity, Saraswat added.<br />

With someone behind the wheel to take control if something goes awry and  a technician in the passenger seat to monitor the navigation system,  seven test cars have driven 1,000 miles without human intervention and  more than 140,000 miles with only occasional human control. One even  drove itself down Lombard Street in San Francisco, one of the steepest  and curviest streets in the nation. The only accident, engineers said,  was when one Google car was rear-ended while stopped at a traffic light.</b><b><br />

Autonomous cars are years from mass production, but technologists who  have long dreamed of them believe that they can transform society as  profoundly as the Internet has.</b><b><br />

Robot drivers react faster than humans, have 360-degree perception and  do not get distracted, sleepy or intoxicated, the engineers argue. They  speak in terms of lives saved and injuries avoided — more than 37,000  people died in car accidents in the United States in 2008. The engineers say the technology  could double the capacity of roads by allowing cars to drive more  safely while closer together. Because the robot cars would eventually be  less likely to crash, they could be built lighter, reducing fuel  consumption. But of course, to be truly safer, the cars must be far more  reliable than, say, today’s personal computers, which crash on occasion  and are frequently infected.<br />
<br />
The Google research program  using artificial intelligence to revolutionize the automobile is proof  that the company’s ambitions reach beyond the search engine business.  The program is also a departure from the mainstream of innovation in  Silicon Valley, which has veered toward social networks and  Hollywood-style digital media.<br />
<br />
During a half-hour drive beginning  on Google’s campus 35 miles south of San Francisco last Wednesday, a  Prius equipped with a variety of sensors and following a route programmed  into the GPS navigation system nimbly accelerated in the entrance lane  and merged into fast-moving traffic on Highway 101, the freeway through  Silicon Valley.<br />
<br />
It drove at the speed limit, which it knew because the limit for every  road is included in its database, and left the freeway several exits  later. The device atop the car produced a detailed map of the environment.<br />
<br />
The car then drove in city traffic through Mountain View, stopping for  lights and stop signs, as well as making announcements like “approaching  a crosswalk” (to warn the human at the wheel) or “turn ahead” in a  pleasant female voice. This same pleasant voice would, engineers said,  alert the driver if a master control system detected anything amiss with  the various sensors.<br />
<br />
The car can be programmed for different driving personalities — from  cautious, in which it is more likely to yield to another car, to  aggressive, where it is more likely to go first.<br />
<br />
Christopher Urmson, a Carnegie Mellon University  robotics scientist, was behind the wheel but not using it. To gain  control of the car he has to do one of three things: hit a red button  near his right hand, touch the brake or turn the steering wheel. He did  so twice, once when a bicyclist ran a red light and again when a car in  front stopped and began to back into a parking space. But the car seemed  likely to have prevented an accident itself.<br />
<br />
When he returned to automated “cruise” mode, the car gave a little  “whir” meant to evoke going into warp drive on “Star Trek,” and Dr.  Urmson was able to rest his hands by his sides or gesticulate when  talking to a passenger in the back seat. He said the cars did attract  attention, but people seem to think they are just the next generation of  the Street View cars that Google uses to take photographs and collect  data for its maps.<br />
<br />
The project is the brainchild of Sebastian Thrun, the 43-year-old  director of the Stanford Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, a Google  engineer and the co-inventor of the Street View mapping service.<br />
<br />
In 2005, he led a team of Stanford students and faculty members in  designing the Stanley robot car, winning the second Grand Challenge of  the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, a $2 million Pentagon  prize for driving autonomously over 132 miles in the desert.<br />
<br />
Besides the team of 15 engineers working on the current project, Google  hired more than a dozen people, each with a spotless driving record, to  sit in the driver’s seat, paying $15 an hour or more. Google is using  six Priuses and an Audi TT in the project.<br />
<br />
The Google researchers said the company did not yet have a clear plan to  create a business from the experiments. Dr. Thrun is known as a  passionate promoter of the potential to use robotic vehicles to make  highways safer and lower the nation’s energy costs. It is a commitment  shared by Larry Page, Google’s co-founder, according to several people  familiar with the project.</span></b></span>
