He’s tall, handsome and witty! And now he’s shown he can act with the smashing success of Leader. Rana Daggubati talks to Nidarshana Sharma AndRitika Samtaney about his phenomenal debut Leader, his love for acting and more. 
Congratulations. Leader has successfully completed 100 days. How’s the feeling? 
Oh it’s always nice for a first film to do well. It wasn’t a regular launch for me. It wasn’t the usual dance-song-action routine. What’s very encouraging is the fact that a film like Leader becoming a commercial success at the box office. It throws open many doors for me and makes it easier for me to plan the rest of my career. 
What made you do Leader then? 
I wanted to participate in making newer cinema. I was already into visual effects and production, so I had an idea as to what kind of a film I’d like to act in. Also I believe since no two people are alike, the movies that they do also shouldn’t be similar. 
So that was a risk you took which paid off. What if it hadn’t? 
Oh that’s simple! I would have simply gone back to producing. 
You play this morally upright Chief Minister in the movie who aims to wipe out corruption single-handedly. Do you think that’s possible in reality too? 
You see, Leader was sort of a vision that we had for Andhra Pradesh or for our CM. It was a citizen’s personal wish list. We’ve already had such movies at the box office before and we have also had very powerful leaders in the past. Mahatma Gandhi or Sardar Vallabhai Patel for example. Today we need more of such leaders which is why our idea of Leader was born as cinema is our medium of reaching out to the people. 
Will you want to be associated with politics? 
Cinema is something I understand and politics is something I don’t, yet. So I tried putting across a dream through acting, which is what I can relate to most. 
How was it working with Richa and Priya? 
Both of them are extremely talented. After a long time, we’ve found a girl who speaks Telugu and has a good command over the language. That way, it was wonderful working with Priya. Richa, on the other hand, we found very late. We were shooting without an Archana. But we finally found her. She’s never acted before and I totally give it to her for blending in. She did really well. 
You’re also doing a Hindi film, Dum Maaro Dum. Tell us about it. 
It came as a surprise for me. Rohan saw a few promos of mine and gave me a call and we started off much before Leader even released. I’m very happy with the way my career is shaping up because I would never be able to film like DMD, which is set in Goa, in Telugu. 
Can you tell us something about your role in the film? 
I play a goan musician in the film, which is not even me. Rohan saw Leader and thought I fit the role so I completely give it to a director to find the potential in you to play a certain character. The makeover in the film is so much that I feel Goan myself and I am glad this came my way. 
Do you think it’s because of your good looks and personality that DMD happened? 
First of all, thank you! I think I have a neutral face and I can pass off as, say, a Goan or a Hindi speaking guy. And my comfort to speak in Hindi proved to be an advantage. 
How was it like working with big actors like Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu? 
I have known Abhishek way before I did the film. I have known him for years now whereas Bipasha I know just now. Both of them are very chilled out and I shared a lovely bond working with them. Apart from the cast, even the crew of the film was fun to work with. 
When is the film due for release? 
The film will complete by the end of this year so early next year is when it should hopefully release. 
What are your upcoming projects? 
I’m doing a bilingual, in fact, both in Tamil and Telugu. One is with Gautam Menon and the other is with Selvaraghavan. 
You come from a family of actors and producers, has that been an influence in your decision to act? 
There is definitely a little more of an edge that I get from the family that I come from so it’s been a great influence in many ways. It’s like being in film school from when you’re in class 1 so I understand films in and out. 
Tell us something about your film, A Belly Full of Dreams, back in 2006 which won a national award for the best film. 
At that point of time I had been running a visual effects company, Spirit Media for about seven years then. I was looking at interesting stuff to make. It was then that my neighbor Prakash, Raghavendra Rao sir’s son came to me with this idea he had heard from a writer, J.K. Baravi, which he rewrote. I wanted to be a part of the film in some way, so I entered as a co-producer of the film, set up a team for it and finally made the film. The film deals with an eight-year-old rag picker who dreams of going to school. How he realizes his dream is the root of the story. 
From the CEO of an enterprise to an actor in the limelight. How was the transition? 
At the end of the day, it’s cinema. I enjoy being on either side of the camera. Both have their beauty, strengths and hardships. It’s cinema and it’s fun. 
All the other young actors in the industry are your friends as well as your competitors. Is that a dilemma? 
I think cinema, being an art, must not be competition-oriented. All the actors that you’re talking about are people who’ve been my buddies since childhood. But we don’t look alike nor are our ideas alike, so we do what appeals to us the most. Often the four of us- Bunny, Charan, Chaitanya and I sit together and watch each other’s edits and talk about what would work and what wouldn’t, so the sense of competition is irrelevant. 
Out of all the films that they have done, is there any film that you would badly want to do? 
I think every actor is made for his film so I am content doing my own films. 
Who is your favorite present-day actress? 
I think Asin and Trisha are two very talented ladies. That’s precisely why they’ve broken all barriers and done Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and now, Hindi films. Another is Priyamani. She’s done fabulous work in Paruthiveeran. I don’t think anyone else could have done better. 
If not acting then what would it be? 
My life has been revolving around films and most of it comes from my lineage. The amount of knowledge that a person like me gets is vast. Therefore there is a natural edge and ability to do not just acting but a lot of stuff related to films. 
Would you ever do a Hollywood film? 
I would love to, but I don’t know how to! (chuckles). 
What about direction? 
I would like to do it sometime soon. It’s not a far-fetched idea. I have been writing on and off so a feature film is definitely on my mind. 
What are the genres that you prefer? 
I like all genres but I am particular fond of chick-flicks. One thing that I can’t stand is horror because I somehow don’t understand the concept of horror films. I haven’t watched a horror film in my entire life. 
You have become the heartthrob of Tollywood. Has that kind of fame hampered your personal life? 
Not one bit. I come from a family that has been pretty much well-known in Hyderabad. So, nothing has changed drastically. I still go to the same restaurants, have the same set of friends and stuff. I go to Old City even now. I’m a haleem lover. I frequent Ofen for breakfast even now. In fact, I feel happy when people recognize me because that way I know they’ve watched my film. So it’s a good thing. 
What’s the best compliment you’ve received so far? 
It’s nice to hear people’s opinion about you and your work. Leader was not just an unconventional debut it was also a responsible one. So that sort of instilled respect in people for my work. But yeah the best time was when a person came up to me and said Leader was his first film in a decade. It was a really good feeling.

There’s nothing sexier than a beautiful lady with the smarts. Here’s a perfect example of the adage. Talking about the clichéd beauty meets brains, she could be a cheerleader at the IPL or she could be a scientist working in a secret lab. She could be whoever she wanted to. But ShreyaDhanwanthary chose to get into tinsel town. And boy, aren’t we glad she did! This NIT Warangal girl is a Femina Miss India finalist. Who would have thought those two nouns could be used in the same sentence together? Destiny’s Child “Independent Woman”– she’s the song, but not the band! That’s what she is. Talk to her and you can’t help wonder, and it strikes you slowly, that she reminds you of Cindy Crawford. So here’s the spotlight on this beautiful Telugu lass who is gracing the silver screen & stealing hearts with her youthful exuberant roles. AnandRayapudi talks to ShreyaDhanwanthary in a freewheeling interview of awesomeness. 
 
There’s something about Shreya. And I just can’t seem to pinpoint it. What do you think it is? Maybe it’s the eyes… 
[laughs] Is it?Well I think there’s more to me than justeyes. It’s not just one trait. I mean, I don’t want to sound arrogant about myself but there are a lot of other things about me that I think are worth talking about [winks]. 
 
Just one or two movies old & you already look like you’re oozing confidence. What do you say to yourself at the start of each morning? 
It’s very simple for me to break it down. To succeed, you need confidence. And I am a very confident individual. So much so that people think it is borderline arrogance. But it’s not! You must have the courage of conviction to believe that you can do it. It isthe way I’ve been brought up. And I love being in the movie industry. I can’t wait to lap all that comes my way. 
 
What’s fame like? How has it changed you? 
Has it? I really don’t want to claim fame.I think fame’s often over-rated and quickly transforms into infamy. I want my work to speak for me. Look at Scorsese, Mani Ratnam,AamirKhan,it’s their work that gets talked about.I really feel Fame is one of the cons of the industry. Because everybody’s talking about you, and not necessarily in a good way most of the times… it can get on your nerves. 
 
But there’s a certain calmness & composure in your face. Did you discover Nirvana already? 
[Breaks into laughter] Seriously, you think so? Then you figure it out yourself. I don’t think I am calm or anywhere close to it. But jokes apart, thanks for saying that! I guess I am grounded in a way that makes me confident wherever I am. Knowing what you are is important, especially in the tinsel world, where everyone’s changing by the minute and you have a hard time knowing people’s real side. That helps you work things out easily. 
And I have a big support system that doesn’t really allow me to get bogged down with stuff. That’s my biggest strength. 
 
How did your entry into Tollywood happen? 
Oh, there was a talent search happening for Snehageetham.I just sent in my pictures and I got through. 
 
You are from NIT Warangal. That’s one of the last places I would look to find a Miss India contestant. What were you studying there? 
ECE! Let me warn you,don’t write me off as a bimbo. I am intelligent. I was head-girl in school. I’ve always been a brilliant student & atopper.I am still academically inclined because I believe it is important.Education can get one throughin life. For me, acting is a wonderful learning process as well.And am thankful, that with whatever little raw talent I have, I’ve been given wonderful opportunities to hone them. 
 
When did you start modeling? 
I started modeling in my 3rd year of college. I was at a stage in life where I wanted to figure out howto use my best traits as an individual to choose a path. And modeling was one of the options I wanted to take a shot at. It was more of a passion as well. One day, my mom casually sent my pictures to Femina.It was a big shock for me that I was shortlisted and it was a bigger shock when I actually won. 
How important was your family’s support? Tell us about your family. 
My family is awesome. My dad still finds it a little hard to believe that I got into movies when I could be pursuing other careers in life. But he has raised me well enough to know that I will make the right decisions. My mom’s a doll. Like all other moms of the world, she is a complete sweetheart. She is my best friend.I also have a younger sister who’s doing her engineering in Bangalore. My family is a huge part of my support group. 
 
Where did you grow up? 
I was born in Hyderabad, thenwe moved to Dubai, Bahrain, Doha, Sharjah. We’ve also lived in Delhi for some time in between. Considering how our country is such a powerhouse of academics, I decided to come back to Indiato finish my studies& then modeling & movies just happened. 
 
So how ‘filmy’ are you? 
Big Time! I grew up on movies. They were my staple diet. And not just Telugu, I watch any & every movie I can get my hands on.Bollywood, Hollywood, French, German, I am a total cinephile.But, I never imagined I’d be on the other side of the screen acting.I was more conditioned to be the audience, you know. 
So what was going through on your mind the very first day of your shoot? 
I was like – OMG! I was there in front of the camera. There were no jitters or racing of pulses though. It was just incredible. I couldn’t believe it. I felt so blessed to be there.I felt responsible for what was coming out. And this was my chance to prove myself. 
 
Tell us something about your forthcoming projects. 
Nah,I don’t want to count my chickens before they hatch&jinx my chances. I am in talks with some directors though. Let me add here that I see myself getting more confident in my interpretation of roles. My love and passion for acting has grown tremendously. 
 
Great. So what are the roles that you see yourself doing in the future? 
Given a chance, I would love to go all out on arty movies and films where I am given meaty substance roles. But I am level-headed to believe that there’s still a long way to go before I am handed such roles.I’m not destiny’s child. I don’t believe in luck. I know that if I have to achieve anything, I have to work hard towards it. 
I want to do something revolutionary that makes people sit up and take notice, and I don’t mean it in a sleazy way. 
 
Aha. So are you like the Girl next door or glam queen? 
In movies, I don’t want to be stereotyped. It would be a minus point for me to get framed like that.In real life, I would consider myself to be a very radical individual. Because I’ve grown up in a family like that! I’ve always been around people who are strong-willed &independent. We are always throwing ideas around, discussing stuff and my family has always encouraged us to think out of the box. And I am really glad for that. No wonder, it is the same upbringing that is the reason I’m strong enough to enter the industry today. 
So if the story requires an on-screen lip lock you would be okay with it? 
Ummm…Errr…  Not Right Now! Maybe if I can trust the director to show it aesthetically. But people’s mindsethas to change. We, as Indians, can still be narrow-minded sometimes. I mean, for crying out loud, people make a huge deal if a couple hold hands in public. 
Fair enough! Moving on, What’s your beauty mantra? 
Stay away from the sun… 
Wow, that’s great advice from a person who’s lived in the Middle-East & hot places like Delhi & Warangal all her life. Come on, you can do better than that… 
[Laughs], okay here you go smarty pants. Smile a lot! Be nice to people, keep smiling andthat’s the best beauty mantra one can have in life. It’s easy to do, and it makes you very beautiful. 
One role you would die for… 
All that everything Savitri has ever touched… I mean she was just fantabulous!Ramyakrishna is also just mindblowing. Don’t even get me started on Sridevi. These are the actresses who have inspired me. I can’t even dare touch them but someday I hope to emulate them.

After scorching Sandalwood with her debut ‘Porki’, Pranita – the dreamy Bangalore model-turned-actress& leading lady of ‘Bava’,talks to Maa Stars about her entry into the Telugu film industry, what it means to work with Siddarth, her future plans and so much more in an exclusive with AnandRayapudi. 
Hi Pranita, Welcome to Tollywood!Obviously,you must be excited. 
Yeah, very! I’m just so kicked about my projects.It’s been an awesome start and I can’t wait for things to come. Everything & everybody are so professional here. It just gives you a whole new perspective into how movies are made. 
You play the role of a village belle in ‘Bava’. Tell us something more about your role. 
My character’s called Varalakshmi. She is a very bubbly, fun-loving village belle. I had lots of fun doing it because it was a total new experience for me playing the part. I’ve been a city-bred girl all my life. So, doing stuff that I’ve never done before in my life like wearing langavonis,getting to see the jataras and all that jazz was pretty exciting. 
You’re paired with Siddarth, the chocolate boy of the Telugu industry… 
[She immediately interrupts] Yeah, that was one of the coolest things ever.I’ve always had a huge crush on Siddarth! When I first got the role,my friends went all J on me and were like, “Wow! You’re working with Siddarth”! But in spite of his image & superstar status, he is really friendly. He just has no hangups whatsoever.He always made me feel comfortable. He used to give me tips & suggestions and helped me out with my shots and stuff. And it’s just wonderful to see him in action. 
There are a lot of rumors surrounding you that you only want to work with big stars. Your comments… 
Okay, I don’t even know who came up with that. When I was working on Porki, all my dates and schedules were full. And I had a clause in my agreement that I wouldn’t sign other movies till Porkireleased.And this is exactly what I told people when I was approached. I just don’t understand how this got misinterpreted. 
Well, there’s no dearth of big stars here in the Telugu industry. Who would you like to work with next? 
[Laughs] Well, if I make a list now, you’ll say, “there, she made a list with only big stars in it”. And people are going to bitch about me. So I guess I’m going to pass. ButI look forward to working with veterans like Prakash Rajbecause I know I can learn a lot from just watching them. 
You must be happy with the way things are shaping up in your career… What’s it been like so far? 
It’s been real awesome so far.Touch wood. I got good reviews for my acting in Porki. I’ve been signed on by good banners, working with great technicians. That said,I’m having fun every bit of the way but at the same time, learning a lot which is important. Right now, I just want to concentrate on my work. 
Was it easier playing the village belle in Bava or the glamorous role in Porki? 
Well, what if I said both weren’t easy.Because I’m neither of those in real life! I’m just a plain city girl. I’ve never been to villages. And neither am I the glamorous outgoing girl. That’s the wonderful thing about acting. It lets you play roles that are outside your personality. It’s tough but you learn to do it. 
Okay so how many takes do you usually get the shot right in? 
[Laughs] It doesn’t take too many, don’t worry. 
Movies are getting bolder lately. Would you do a kissing scene if required? Your take… 
The answer may sound clichéd but it really depends on the script & the kind of movie it is. 
Will you do a Murder if it comes your way? After all, it was a genre changer & look at where it put MallikaSherawat today* 
Definitely. I wouldn’t want to restrict myself to any roles and I want to try all kinds of genres out. There’s more to me than an image of a bubbly girl. And I want to break that mould. 
What will you look for in a script? 
Right now, since I’m just 2 movies old,I really am not in a position to choose. I’m just glad that I’m getting the right offers so far. Interesting scripts, the chance to work with great technicians, I’m just counting my blessings. 
Eventually Bollywood? 
Frankly, I’m not thinking that far right now. I just want to go with the flow. 
How do you deal with all the adulation & fan base coming your way? 
It’s a nice feeling. People recognize you on the street &and it makes you go “Wow, I’m famous!” [Grins toothily] 
Let’s go back to how it all began. How did acting happen? 
I was asked to audition for Porki when I was modeling in Bangalore. And the rest, I hope, will be considered history.

Well, both my parents are doctors and I am an only child. But I wasn’t at all pampered as a kid. So I warn you, don’t put the spoilt brat tag on me. I was always pushed to study and was expected to become an engineer, if not a doctor. But fate had something else in store for me that nobody expected. 
Imagine you’re a soothsayer. What does your future tell you? 
[Thinks for a second before saying] Okay, my imagination sucks. I just want to take each day as it comes. I do not want to think about the future right now.

We caught up with Priya Anand a.k.a Ratna Prabha of Leader fame after an exclusive shoot for MAA Stars.It’s hard to miss the twinkle in her eyes& her mischievous smile. Above all else, her clobbering enthusiasm just rubs off on you. Here’s what she had to say… 
Good things come in small packages.You’re certainly proving it… 
Dude, look at what is packed in this petite frame. It’s all about the attitude, not the ‘altitude’.  [winks] 
How was it working with Rana & Ram? 
Rana is the more serious type of guy. He’s so quiet all the time. I used to be the in-house prankster on the sets of Leader while it was the total opposite on the sets of RRKK. Ram looks innocent but he is like a mischievous little boy who is waiting to play pranks on you. But both of them are so committed during the shoot. I’ve learnt a lot about professionalism from both of them. It was a wonderful learning experience especially since I was shooting for both movies at once. The diversity in the themes was great to experience.

How are you dealing with all the attention coming your way? 
Nothing has really changed per se. I still have the same friends. I do the same things I used to do before. I travel by autorickshaw, eat out at the same Idli bandi, hang out at Necklace Road, gorge on Biryani at Paradise & Shadab. I really wouldn’t have it any other way. 
You’ve acted in two Tamil movies before Leader. How did you get into Tamil movies in the first place? 
I live with my grandparents in Chennai, there I used to model a lot and slowly started acting in TV commercials, that’s when I was spotted by my director. 
You can speak Tamil &Telugu quite well. And you dub your own voice. That’s winning you lots of brownie points. 
That’s the thing about Sekhar Kammula. He was very particular that he wanted a Telugu girl for the role of Ratna Prabha. And I can speak Telugu well. So He & Rana insisted that I dub my own voice. It was really their discretion. I just followed my director’s advice. 
There’s a bit of Marathi blood in there, as well I’m told. What else? You are quite the linguist. How many languages do you know? 
Well, start counting – English, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, Hindi & Spanish, 6 in all. 
Take us down memory lane.Where did you grow up? 
My mom’s from Chennai & dad’s from Hyderabad. So I grew up in both places. I moved to the US to study Communications &Journalism at the University of Albany.After completing my education, I moved back to Chennai to be with my grandparents. 
Has being a Telugu girl in the industry made things easy or difficult for you? 
Knowing the language you are acting in definitely makes it easy. Audiences want to see their kind. They want to relate to the characters.The actress should look native to the culture. And that’s where I come in I guess. My South Indian looks definitely help me.Directors are confident that I understand my scene better & react to it. 
How was it working with Sekhar Kammula in Leader? 
He’s more than a director to me. He is my mentor. He has so much fame & fortune yet he is so humble & real. No airs at all. I admire his outlook towards life. 
What do you actually think of politics? 
Oh spare me, it’s just not my cup of tea. But yes, working in Leader has brought out a different perspective. We would all love to see an Arjun Prasad-like politician but I don’t think it is practical. 
What is your dream role? 
I don’t really have a dream role as such but Ratna Prabha will always remain close to my heart. I’m just thankful for all the roles coming my way. 
What has been your best experience in the industry so far? 
The audience’s reaction to me has been so encouraging. I love spending time with my fans.

<div id="p-tag">Bengaluru, Oct. 10: The vociferous Sunday crowd which had turned out in large numbers to cheer the home side fell silent for a brief period when Virender Sehwag (30) departed after the Australians had scored 478 on the second day of the second Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.</div><div id="p-tag">However, Sachin Tendulkar (44 n.o.) in the company of Murali Vijay (42 n.o.) took India’s total to 128 for 2 at stumps, thereby ensuring that the Indian fans did not return home dejected.</div><div id="p-tag">Earlier in the day, India allowed Australia to pile a formidable total, thanks to a career best effort by Marcus North, who scored a fighting 128 off 240 deliveries. In reply, India were in spot of bother when they lost Sehwag and Rahul Dravid (1) in quick succession. But Tendulkar brought solidity to the innings, raising an unbeaten 90-run stand for the third wicket with M. Vijay.</div><div id="p-tag">Sehwag provided the usual explosive start, but miscued a pull to deep mid-wicket and Dravid, who got out to a left-arm seamer for third time in a row in this series, left India precariously placed at 38 for 2.</div><div id="p-tag">But, Tendulkar and Vijay were up for the challenge on a pitch that offered little assistance to the bowlers, as the day progressed. During the effort the little master also completed 14,000 runs in Tests. Tendulkar’s effort somewhat managed to take the limelight away from the visitors, especially North, who showed why he has scored more than 10,000 runs in first class cricket.</div><div id="p-tag">The last recognised pair of North and Paine responded splendidly to pressure. In the first hour of the day under overcast conditions, the ball darted around to trouble the batsmen, but the hosts could not bag a wicket till lunch. Zaheer Khan and Sreesanth in particular, failed to use the conditions to their advantage. Sreesanth bowled too many short deliveries that denied him a chance of picking a wicket. North looked in sublime touch, scoring runs all round the wicket at a healthy pace with minimal risks as he led the Aussies to a dominant position.</div><div id="p-tag">He first added 149 runs for the sixth wicket with Paine (59) and later put on 43 crucial runs for the seventh with Nathan Hauritz. While North’s knock was chanceless, the same cannot be said about Paine. He edged a few and was also caught behind off a Sreesanth delivery which turned out to be a no ball.</div><div id="p-tag">Pragyan Ojha finally provided the breakthrough when Paine was beaten in the flight and was stumped by M.S. Dhoni. Mitchell Johnson did not last long but Hauritz proved to be an able partner for North. </div><div id="p-tag">Scoreboard

Ragada is the confirmed title for Nagarjuna’s latest film in the direction of Veeru Potla. Producer Siva Prasad Reddy arranged a press meet to announce the same. It was attended by Nagarjuna, Veeru Potla, D Siva Prasad reddy, Anushka, Priyamani, Brahmanandam, Veeru Potla, Sarvesh Murari, AS Prakash etc. 
 Nagarjuna said, “I preview logo of Ragada in my twitter account yesterday and the response has been terrific. I used to eat Ragada Samosa at chat stall when I was a kid. I came to know that Ragada means godava while growing up. If you notice lyrics of Jagada Jagada song from Geetanjali, you will notice Ragada word and Gaganam word. Both these words are being kept as titles for upcoming my movies. Ragada is a kind of entertainer like Hello Brother and Allari Alludu. I saw Bindaas movie and gave the direction offer to Veeru Potla. Passionate and talented people like Veeru Potla will always be recognized in Telugu film industry. Music director Thaman gave good music. We are shooting Ragada movie in Petra, Jordon which is recently announced as the eighth wonder in the world. I am very excited to go to Petra. Kajal Replaces Anushka in Ravi Teja ‘Veera’

Mass Raja Ravi Teja Veera Telugu movie is currently undergoing shooting. While Anushka Shetty and Taapsee were earlier considered as heroines in this Ravi Teja Veera movie, its being heard that Anushka is now been replaced by Kajal. 
 
It seems that Anushka could not accommodate her dates for Ravi Teja Veera movie and as such, the makers have decided to rope in Kajal Agarwal in place of Anushka.

Rajinikanth Endhiran and Salman Khan Dabangg competed in terms of collections for first week some time back. While Dabangg collections sent the earlier box office records tumbling, Endhiran – Robot has sent Dabangg crashing down. 
 
Endhiran first week collections were Rs. 60 crores in Tamil Nadu, 30 crores in Andhra Pradesh, 8 crores in Karnataka and Rs 4 crore in Kerala. Endhiran Hindi version Robot collections were 15 crores. 
 
While Endhiran released in 2,200 screens, Dabangg released in 1,400 screens. More screens mean more revenue. The entertainment tax structure and ticket prices vary from in India from North to South zone. Also, the dubbed movies need to pay 7% additional tax in the form of entertainment tax to the government.  So there’s lot for discussion.

<div class="article-block" id="article-block"><div id="p-tag">Hyderabad, Oct. 10: Several major power and irrigation projects are awaiting formal inauguration by the Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, and both ministries have informed the CMO about the need to inaugurate these projects and have sought dates. </div><div id="p-tag">Mr Rosaiah had to cancel several engagements, particularly tours to districts, in the last two months due to ill health. Since he has recuperated now, his office will now have to allot dates to each of the projects readied for inauguration. </div><div id="p-tag">The principal secretary to the Chief Minister, Mr C.V.S.K. Sarma, on Sunday confirmed that there were a good number of projects waiting for formal inauguration and after the Chief Minister returns from Delhi, the list would be presented to him for approval of the dates for inauguration.</div><div id="p-tag">Among the major irrigation projects awaiting inauguration are Yellampally Irrigation project, Devadula Phase 1 — the largest lift irrigation scheme in world —, Sriramsagar flood flow canal and Venkatanagaram Lift Irrigation scheme in East Godavari district.</div><div id="p-tag">Similarly the power projects awaiting inauguration include the 500 mw Kakateeya Thermal Power Station near Bhupalapally in Warangal district and the 500 mw Rayalaseema Thermal Power Station near Muddanur in Kadapa district. </div><div id="p-tag">The Jurala Hydro Electric Project in Mahbubnagar district is also ready for formal inauguration. </div><div id="p-tag">There are also some more road projects like the Hyderabad-Ramagundam Rajiv Rahadari four-lane widening and the BRTS project in Vijayawada and Vizag that have to be inaugurated.</div><div id="p-tag">The major irrigation minister, Mr P. Laxmaiah, speaking to this correspondent, said formal inauguration of the projects by the chief minister will give a boost to the image of the Congress government in the state. “By mobilising crowds and organising inauguration functions in a big way, the Congress government’s pro-development programmes will get positive publicity among the people which is the need of the hour,” said Mr Laxmaiah. </div><div id="p-tag">“We are hopeful about the chief minister’s nod for the inaugurations either by October end or in the following month,” he added.</div></div> <div style="clear: both;"> </div>

New bus terminal to have 20 platforms

VIJAYAWADA, Oct. 10: The Andhra Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC), Vijayawada region will construct a new terminal in the Pandit Nehru Bus Station for the passengers travelling to Guntur, Prakasam, Nellore and Chittoor districts. 
The proposed terminal will have 20 platforms, which will be built close to the national highway in Krishnalanka area. The existing 79 platforms are not able to cope with the bus traffic. 
The PNBS handles 3,500 buses to various parts of the state and Karnataka every day. 
Keeping in view the future needs of the bus passengers, the RTC proposed to construct the new terminal at a cost of Rs 1 crore. 
The regional manager, Mr A. Koteswara Rao, said the department is awaiting the approval of the higher authorities to start the construction works. The RTC will add more platforms in the city terminal very soon to the existing eight platforms. 
The city terminal handles one lakh passengers every day and is very useful to a large number of passengers. With the arrival of JNNURM buses, traffic in the city terminal increased. 
But, the platforms remained the same for many years. Now, the RTC decided to increase the platforms and lay concrete flooring for the smooth passage of the buses. 
The RTC Vijayawada region is also planning to construct multi-stair parking complex for two-wheelers, cars and other vehicles. The Vijayawada depot has been facing many hardships due to insufficient space for parking. The proposed complex will be directly connected to the national highway. 
The passengers can park vehicles comfortably and reach the platforms to board the buses. 
The proposed multi-stair parking complex will be built in public-private partnership mode for which the RTC will give one acre land on lease for 30 years. Interested parties can build the complex and collect fee for parking the vehicles. 
The proposed multi-stair parking complex will be the first of its kind in the city. The railways and the VMC are also planning to construct such parking complexes to prevent parking problem.

<div id="google_ads_div_DC_AllPages_BesideArticle_SquareAD_300x250"> <ins style="border: 0pt none; display: inline-table; height: 250px; position: relative; width: 300px;"><ins style="border: 0pt none; display: block; height: 250px; position: relative; width: 300px;"></ins></ins></div><div id="p-tag">Kakinada, Oct. 10: Though the recent heavy rainfall and three time floods in the river God-avari made thousands of kh-arif farmers’ life miserable, these will now be a boon to the ensuing rabi's farmers in Godavari districts. </div><div id="p-tag">Over 9.6 lakh acres in both East and West Godavari districts will be supplied sufficient water for cultivating paddy from various water sources, including the Godavari barrage, Sileru and Yeleru reservoirs, which have now over 100 tmc feet of water due to the heavy rains in the last few months. </div><div id="p-tag">The total inflow of the river Godavari at the Dowles-waram barrage was 3,700 tmc feet till the end of September. Both the irrigation projects could supply water to only 3.35 lakh acres in the same districts in the last rabi due to drought. </div><div id="p-tag">The district irrigation advisory board recently held a meeting on the matter with all peoples' representatives, farmers’ associations’ leaders and officials. </div><div id="p-tag">At the meeting, district collector Mr M. Ravi Chandra said that 8,96,553 acre in the Godavari districts would be provided sufficient water from Godavari barrage and Sileru power drift which have now nearly 94 tmc feet of water including 52 tmc feet in the Godavari barrage. </div><div id="p-tag">Also, nearly 65,000 acre in East Godavari district would be given water from the Yeleru reservoir which has nearly 21.22 tmc feet including 15.066 tmc feet of live storage. </div><div id="p-tag">According to sources, roughly 10 lakh farmers from around 68 mandals will start the 120-day rabi crop, which is likely to begin in either the last week of November or the first week of December. The number of farmers and the coverage crop area is nearly 20 to 30 per cent higher than that of the kharif crop. </div><div id="p-tag">Tenant farmers prefer the rabi because there are fewer chances of natural calamities and rains, besides higher chances of better paddy production as compared to the kharif crop. </div><div id="p-tag">General secretary of East Godavari District Farmers' Union Mr G. Appa Reddy told this newspaper that the heavy rains and floods were a bane to the kharif farmers but a boon to over 10 lakh farmers in the Godavari districts. According to him, the total rabi paddy production will easily cross 20 lakh metric tonne from the Godavari districts in this 2010-11 financial year.</div>

<div id="p-tag">Hyderabad, Oct. 10: Tampering with the options provided by students in the recent Eamcet and Icet web-based counselling, has shown how vulnerable the internet based system is, and has shocked students, many of whom find they have been allotted seats in colleges they had never opted for. </div><div id="p-tag">The lower-rung staff at counselling centres in various districts colluded with the managements of private engineering, MBA and MCA colleges to change the choice of colleges entered by students after getting their passwords. These incidents of “options tampering” came to light in Kurnool, Kadapa, Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam, which have many engineering colleges.</div><div id="p-tag">Students, who have complained to the AP State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) that they have been allotted seats in colleges they have never even opted for, alleged that these colleges paid computer operators in counselling centres `5,000 to `20,000 for each seat they diverted.</div><div id="p-tag">The operators were appointed to assist students since a majority of Eamcet-qualified students hail from rural areas and have no computer knowledge.</div>

Bopaiah’s ruling on the plea to disqualify 16 rebel BJP and independent MLAs, is likely to decide the future of the first BJP government in south India on Monday when the Chief Minister, Mr B.S. Yeddyurappa, moves a confidence motion in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.</div><div id="p-tag">Mr Yeddyurappa is slated to move the confidence motion at 10 am and in all probability, his fate will be decided by noon. Both the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress and JD(S) are preparing for a do or die battle in the House which is likely to witness acrimonious exchanges and pandemonium in the course of the debate.</div><div id="p-tag">The big question: Can Mr Yeddyurappa succeed as he did when he moved a confidence motion in June, 2008, soon after the BJP emerged as the single largest party in the May, 2008 polls?
