Sneha Ullal tops this list with a roller-coaster career. After giving a solid hit in Ullasanga Utsahanga, she did Current, a dud and then came Simha, which fared well, but then she chose a small-time film Madatha Kaja. “Frankly, I never aspired to join the rat race. I have been selective about my work and would like to do different roles. I prefer to work with people I am comfortable with and leave the rest to fate,” she says. Ashmita Sood, who did well with Brahmigadi Katha, also seems to feel the same. “She is ambitious and pragmatic, but likes to tread cautiously,” says a close friend of the actress. 
Swetha Basu Prasad, on the other hand, seems to have gone on a signing spree post- Kotha Bangaru Lokam, but her strategy does not seem to have paid off as duds like Kasko and Kalavar King have hampered her T-town innings. 
Then we have B-town girls like Sheena Shahabdi and Aksha, who both had great starts. Veeru Potla, who directed Sheena in the hit Bindass, says of her decision to head back to Bollywood, “She had some Telugu offers but she chose to settle down in B-town and we can’t question her decision.” Bollywood definitely gives more mileage than regional films. Whereas, Aksha, who made a mark with Yuvatha and Ride and is back after a gap with Kandireega says, “I am just 19, I have a long way to go and intend to focus more in Tollywood. Already, I have two hits and am confident about Kandireega, so I think my career is moving at the right pace.” 
Priya Anand, of Leader fame and Nitya Menon of Ala Modalayindi, both were relying on 180 to reverse their fortunes, but its lukewarm response has not done the job. Director Jayendra says, “Our film received a mixed response, I think both Nitya and Priya’s performance was appreciated. I don’t think that the prospects of the film at box office will have an impact on their careers.” </div>

The thugs almost get at her — till like in the movies, two or three heroes come to her rescue. What the young woman did, is use her ‘Sentinel’. 
While smartphones and mobile accessories are sneered at by the techno phobic, the same gadgets could play the role of your saviours. 
That’s what 24-year-old Christin Immanuel George and his team found out when they set out on the path of making mobile applications. The young team launched this mission last December, when their start-up company — MindHelix Technologies — was opened in Kochi. Sentinel, their latest project that works on GPS, was released nearly a month ago. 
“It is an application to help improve the security of women and can be installed on a smart phone. When the application is on and you press the big button, an alert goes to three phone numbers and email addresses you choose. 
So when you are in trouble, your dear ones can come to your rescue at once. If the miscreants snatch your phone and switch it off, the application will still send an alert to the same people,” explains Christin, founder and CEO of MindHelix.

Three members of Christin’s core team — the fourth being himself — were final year engineering students at the time the company started its operations. 
Thomas Antony, Christin’s cousin, took two of his classmates — Kallidil Kalidasan and Nandakumar K.S. — and joined Christin. “One day when we met over coffee, we came up with the idea of a tuk-tuk meter,” says Christin. 
Auto rickshaw drivers cheating passengers by charging high fares have been an oft-heard complaint. To resolve the problem, the youngsters developed an application that would record the exact fare of travel from one place to another, depending on the location. 
The team has won awards and honours for their ‘tuk tuk meter’ at the Indian Android Developer Contest, initiated by Webonise Lab, Pune and the mBillionth Award South Asia 2011.</div>

</ul></div></div>He does, however, sometimes miss regular food. “I’m a foodie and like to try different cuisines, I binge on my favourite dishes on cheeky Sundays,” he adds. 
Ram Charan Tej, like a true star, has gone a step further and has flown a Chennai cook over to Miami to dish out pure vegetarian food. “Of course, we hired a chef from Chennai, as I love specialities like uttapam and aviyal. Vegetarian food is healthy, but I mostly have a protein-rich diet for a toned body,” he says. 
Even Naga Chaitanya is fascinated with South Indian food idli and sambar, as he lived in Chennai for 18 years. He, however, now follows a low-calorie diet in Hyderabad. 
“I had to add some muscle for my action film Dhada, so I cut down on carbohydrates and fatty foods and took up a protein-rich diet with energy supplements. In any case, I’m not a foodie and am quite selective about my diet,” he says. 
Whereas his friend and actor RaNa says he loves to relish various delicacies. 
“Even though he indulges himself, he does make sure he burns the calories through an extremely strenuous workout,” says a source close to the actor. But the actor is known to follow strict diets when he is filming. 
Allu Arjun also relies on a strenuous workout to keep his fabulous body in shape. 
“I’ve heard that Salman Khan doesn’t sleep without working out. I also rarely miss out a workout, burning the calories you consume is the best way to keep your appetite and body in good humour,” he reasons.</div>

Instead of filling up cumbersome physical forms, and standing in the long serpentine queues at the Adarshnagar office, all you need to do, is go to the specially designed website, fill in the details and click it away. As a senior IT official, in charge of salaried IT assessees in the city, says, “All one needs to have is a basic knowledge of Form 16, as given by the employer, and reproduce it in the eform available on the Net without errors.”

The IT department has launched a widespread campaign to popularise this efiling of returns. One needs to go to the website, incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in, and create a login. The PAN number is the default login ID, for which a password can be created by the user. Individual salaried taxpayers can download the ITR 1 (Sahaj) form, fill in all the details offline and upload the automatically created .xtml file. “It is hassle-free,” certifies K. Sridhar, a software professional with Motorola. “The process is finished within a minute,” agrees Giridhar Toshniwal, an auditor with PPKG & Co. 
There is, however, an apprehension among taxpayers that the tax refund, if any, could be delayed in the eformat. “It took more than a year for me to receive my refund when I filed the e-returns two years ago. So I reverted to physical filing,” says Manoj, an employee of Hetero Drugs. 
Another problem is that of digital signatures. Many of the assessees, filing their returns at Ayakar Bhavan, said that they did not have the same, so had to continue filing physical copies. “There are lot of apprehensions about efiling and the department needs to focus on clearing them,” says Ms Sandhya, an employee with St Ann’s College. 
Clarifying this issue of digital signatures, an IT official said that those who do not have digital signatures can sign on the acknowledgement form, which is generated immediately after filing the returns and post the same to the IT office in Bengaluru, to the address mentioned in the receipt. However, he cautioned that eformat users, should check the 26 AS form available on the site, to verify whether their employer had deducted tax at source and remitted the same to the IT department. The figures mentioned in Form 16 and 26 AS need to tally with the ones uploaded, any discrepancy will lead to a delay. Employees who keep changing places, have also been advised to change their PAN details immediately on transfer, to avoid delay in processing the returns at the new place. About the delay in tax refunds, the official mentioned that the situation has changed since last year and majority of refunds were cleared by May. </div>

Ultraviolet (UV) rays emitted by the sun are the leading environmental cause of skin complaints, causing skin cancer, sunburn and solar erythema, as well as premature ageing of the dermis and epidermis. Now, a Spanish study has proven that some substances in grapes can reduce the amount of cell damage caused in skin exposed to this radiation. 
UV rays act on the skin by activating ‘reactive oxygen species’ (ROS). These compounds in turn oxidise macromolecules such as lipids and DNA, stimulating certain reactions and enzymes (JNK and p38MAPK) that cause cell death. 
A group of scientists from the University of Barcelona and the CSIC have shown that some polyphenolic substances extracted from grapes (flavonoids) can reduce the formation of ROSs in human epidermis cells that have been exposed to long-wave (UVA) and medium-wave (UVB) ultraviolet radiation.</div>

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">July 29: Caught between warring Telangana-Seemandhra leaders, the Telugu Desam president, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, said on Friday that his viewpoint on the Telangana issue reflected his party’s decision and was in no way influenced by leaders of other parties. 
He also opposed the Centre’s draft Lokpal Bill, saying the Prime Minister should be brought under its purview. He added that the Bill was a sad reflection of the Centre’s lack of commitment to fight corruption. 
“On the Telangana issue, my statement reflects the party decision. The stands taken by other leaders reflect the views of their regions and not those of their party. My party has made it clear at the Mahanadu that the Telangana issue has to be solved by the Centre,” he said. Mr Naidu tried to play down the row kicked up over the remarks of senior party politburo member, Mr Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, that the TD’s letter to the Pranab Mukherjee committee supporting Telangana in 2008 was time-barred. 
The TD chief’s comments added to the confusion among Telangana TD Forum leaders, since they were harping on the TD report to the Pranab Mukherjee committee at every given opportunity and promising to fight for a separate Telangana, which Mr Naidu described as individual opinions and not those of the party. Mr Naidu said henceforth there was no need to keep on enquiring about the TD’s stand on Telangana and creating animosity among people. “We discussed the Telangana issue threadbare at the Mahanadu and the party has expressed its view categorically,” he added. 
“People of both the regions are equal to me. I cannot differentiate between them,” he remarked. 
Referring to the proposed Lokpal draft Bill prepared by the Centre, he said the Bill was toothless and clearly reflected that the Centre was not keen to eradicate corruption. “At a time when the Centre is hit by major scams, the proposed Bill is ineffective. The Centre seems to be more committed to protecting the corrupt,” he added.

US warns Indian students about 'predatory visa fraud rings'

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">As another US university came under the scanner, the United States asked Indian students to be alert to the existence of 'predatory visa fraud rings and fraudulent document vendors'. 
"We are looking into this matter, we're following the case closely, and we're in communication with the Government of India officials on it," State Department spokesman Mark Toner said on Friday, a day after a raid on the University of Northern Virginia. 
Based in Annandale, a Washington suburb, the unaccredited, for-profit private university has some 2,400 students of which 90 percent are from India, mostly from Andhra Pradesh, registered at three locations in northern Virginia. 
The US embassy in New Delhi has briefed the Ministry of External Affairs and the US Department of Homeland Security and the State Department have been in contact with the Indian Embassy here, Toner said. 
Declining to give details as an investigation is ongoing, the spokesman said "it's important to note that a hundred thousand Indians are receiving a good education at certified US institutions each year, and we certainly welcome the contribution of Indian students wishing to study in the United States." 
"And of course, as always, we caution them to be alert to the existence of these so-called predatory visa fraud rings and fraudulent document vendors," he said. 
Asked how US consulates or embassies in India issued visas for study at such institutions, Toner again declined comment in view of "an ongoing investigation". 
"They've taken action against this school, and we're in close coordination with the Indian Government as we move forward. But beyond that, I don't want to comment on details," he said. 
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement has warned the Northern Virginia University that it could withdraw the school's authorisation to admit foreign students. 
Agency Spokesperson Cori Bassett, however, would not say why the action was taken, saying it is part of a pending investigation. The school remains open and certified and will have the chance to rebut the government's allegations.</div>

State Minorities Commission vice chairman Abraham Mathai wrote to Mumbai police chief Arup Patnaik, urging him to initiate criminal charges against Swamy under Section 153 (A) of the Indian Penal Code. 
"I am writing to you following uproar and a feeling of insecurity among the minority community caused by an article written by Dr. Subramanian Swamy entitled 'How to wipe out Islamic terror' published in the DNA of 16th July 2011," the letter said. 
Swamy, a doctorate from Harvard, penned an op-ed that advocated denial of voting rights to non-Hindus with the goal of stemming terrorist attacks in India. 
"The extreme xenophobic right-wing thoughts expressed in it are quite disturbing and the article is socially irresponsible and completely anti-Islamic. It is also alarming that Dr. Swamy is trying to incite Islamophobia using his freedom of expression to propagate hate through stereotyping," Mathai said. 
Mathai also said that there are "Hindu terrorists" as well in jails who have equally perpetrated heinous acts. 
"As a matter of fact, the Muslim community has as much stake as any in the progress, security and well being of India as a nation. Dr. Swamy's bizarre solution is converting Muslims into Hinduism, rather than allowing each individual to choose to live as he/she wishes as expressed in Article 25 of the constitution," he said.</div>

The Hyderabadi stylist who scored 54 was at the centre of India's batting revival as he, along with Dravid frustrated England for nearly the entire session and closed down the deficit to 104 runs. Dravid is batting on 44 with Sachin Tendulkar (14 batting) for company. 
Only when it appeared that India would see out the session without any loss, Tim Bresnan produced a brute of a delivery which kicked off from a length and kissed the edge of Laxman's bat as wicketkeeper Matt Prior gleefully pouched it. 
Laxman resisted the England attack for two and half hours hitting 10 boundaries during 112-ball knock. This is Laxman's fifth half century in the last four Tests. 
From the second over of the morning, when Laxman first square cut and then cover drove James Anderson, the middle- order batsman was in his element and thumped the England bowlers around the park.  
It had the making of an Indian session when Dravid flicked and off-drove Stuart Broad for boundaries following on the couple of hits to the fence by Laxman in the previous over, to make it four fours from four deliveries. 
Laxman teased the England fielders with his placements off an open-faced bat and hit several shots either side of the cover fielders to keep getting boundaries. </div>

Govt probing assets, payments of Indians received abroad: FM

Information about wealth stashed away in Swiss banks by Indians is expected by the government before the end of the year, he indicated after pointing out that India had signed a Double Taxation Avoidance Treaty with Switzerland. 
The treaty is likely to be ratified by the Swiss by September and information about tax avoidance should be available thereafter. 
Information regarding assets and payments received by Indian citizens was now now under different stages of processing, he said. 
Rejecting the opposition charge that the government was not not serious about dealing with black money, the minister told PTI that while previous governments which included the BJP, CPI and other opposition parties had done nothing in this regard, the UPA had launched a five-pronged strategy in this regard. 
Besides creating an appropriate legislative framework, the government had started renegotiations with 75 countries to get more information. Negotiations have been completed with 53 countries or jurisdictions. 
According to latest estimates available, the Directorate of International Taxation has collected taxes of Rs.33,784 crore from cross border transactions in the last two financial years. 
In a large number of specific cases, information has been obtained under DTAAs. 
The Directorate of Transfer Pricing has detected mispricing of Rs.34,145 crore in the last two financial years as against mispricing of Rs.14,655 crore in earlier five years. 
The investigation wing of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has detected concealed income of Rs.18,750 crore i the last two financial years. 
Mukherjee said India has been able to achieve success in getting information about black money stashed abroad in the last two years after the Pittsburgh summit of the G-20 where clear signals were given that countries and tax havens cannot continue their non-cooperation in this matter. 
India joined the global crusade against black money and has now now a huge network of amended DTAAs and Tax Information Exchange Agreement (TIEA) with tax havens. 
Dismissing opposition claims, he maintained that simply by sending a couple of tax officials the government cannot bring black money stashed abroad in banks. 
On various estimates of Indian money stashed away abroad, including the figure of USD 468 billion, Mukherjee said, "this is just playing to gallery". 
He said he has asked three expert groups to go into the issue of estimates on black money independently and report to the government on it. 
"We have taken a number of steps. Substantive issues are being addressing. You can get information only through legal instrumentalities. You can't get information through fishing expedition," he said. 
Explaining the way the DTAAs work, the Minister said if the government finds there is a possibility of tax evasion domestically, then a notice is issue through courts and the country concerned would be able to share information. 
It works in two phases. One way is to collect taxes and another is to prosecute them. 
"So far as we are concerned, if you keep USD 100 million in taxes, plus penalty and interest, more than USD 100 could be recovered. If I get more money why should I prosecute. But the moment you prosecute, you can make publicise the names," he said. 
The government has got names of 16 or 17 black money holders from Lichtenstein, he said. 
On the Supreme Court appointing a committee of officials and two former judges to probe the issue of black money abroad, Mukherjee said the government has already filed a review petition because "there are certain law points we are fighting".</div>

Senior BJP leaders Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh and M Venkaiah Naidu began the consultation process to break the logjam. 
Earlier in the day, Yeddyurappa met Jaitley and Singh, who have been exerting pressure on him to quit to pave the way for smooth election of a successor. 
Throwing up signs of rebellion, Yeddyurappa had mobilised his loyalist MLAs and ministers who insisted on his continuance, putting the central leadership in a quandry. 
Yeddyurappa wants the successor to be of his choice and is insisting on the state unit party president's post for him, party sources said. 
BJP national general secretary Ananth Kumar, a known bete noire of Yeddyurappa, is emerging as the top contender for the Chief Minister's post, while the names of senior minister V S Acharya and party MP Sadananda Gowda is also doing the rounds. 
Karnataka BJP president K S Eshwarappa expressed strong displeasure over the criticism of Lokayukta report by Yeddyurappa loyalists -- ministers V. Somanna and MP Renukacharya, and Lok Sabha member D.B. Chandre Gowda. 
Eshwarappa also stressed that nobody can question the decision of BJP Parliamentary Board, which asked Yeddyurappa to resign.</div>

Sadly that didn’t happen as Sega is not getting favorable talk. The talk is ranging from flop to average and we have to wait and see if it can improve in the coming days. Even Veppam didn’t get good reviews from the Tamil critics. 
 
Director Anjana made a rustic film with less emotions and more style. A film with substance might have done a world of good to this promising combination. Hard luck!

The producer and other crew members didn’t give up on the film as they did publicity in an aggressive manner. On a whole, Badrinath did average business at the box office as it broke even in few areas and buyers lost some money in other regions.

Karthik (Nani) and Vishnu (Karthik Kumar) are two friends who come from a poor background. All is well for them until Vishnu falls head over heels for a call girl Vani (Bindu Madhavi). She is in possession of Karthik's pimp father and Karthik agrees to do a drug deal with him on a condition that he will free Vani from the business. Karthik doesn't like the idea of drug dealing but agrees to do it for his friend. Things go out of these commoners hands and they face terrible situations. How they get over the problems is what sums up Sega. 
Analysis: 
 
Most of the Tamil directors these days are trying to make films with the backdrop of North Madras. There are ample films made with the same template that consists of two common guys, romance, a huge problem and the redemption/solution. Anjana's story is neither different nor her screenplay is path breaking. Except for the reason that this rustic film is made by a female director, there is nothing special or worthy of Sega. 
 
The film unfolds at a leisure pace and the point of view narration makes the narration confused. When the questions are answered in the second half, the shock factor is missing due to sluggish direction. Everything is extremely predictable that makes Sega an uninteresting watch. Director failed to build the romance and friendship bond which are vital for this subject for the audience to get emotionally attached with it. When Vishnu and Vani love faces a sad end, audience wouldn't feel the pain as the buildup is not good enough. 
 
 
 
Gangsters and their antics are weak making Sega weak on the action department. There are two annoying old characters (Nithya's father and Vishnu's caretaker) that will get onto your nerves. 
 
The film is sound on technical front and there is nothing special about the script and performances. Sega might appeal to for the audiences who are looking for a break from the run of the mill movies. But even they will come out disappointed! 
Performances: 
 
Nani did well within his limitations. Like all he characters in this film, he had not much scope to show off his skills. He is a good actor and there is one scene where he shows concern over his injured girlfriend. Superb! Karthik Kumar's performance seems loud to Telugu audience. Muthu Kumar as Nani's brother tried his best to excel in the key role. With all due credit to him,  a better actor would have made a world of difference to this film. Jennifer as Ammaji is bad. She didn't suit the role of Godmother at all. The pimp looked wicked enough but failed on the performance side. Nithya Menon and Bindu Madhavi had little scope and they did their part well. 
Tehnicalities: 
 
Music by Joshua Sridhar is impressive. Three songs are good and the background score is Okay. Om Prakash's Cinematography is very good. He  establishes the rustic side of life in Chennai very well. Anthony's editing is alright. Art department is up to the mark too. 
 
Director Anjana is a good technician but lacks the skills to make a taut crime thriller. She needs to sharpen her script writing skills to become a successful director. Her efforts are to be commended for making a masculine film when she could always play an escapist with candyfloss film in the name of being a female.

Vikram alias Vikky (Kamalakar) is an Engineering graduate who is in search of job. One day he saves a mother and daughter who are attempting for a suicide. From then on rowdies start to attack him. Once he gets caught by the police while he is fighting in an attempt to save himself. Inspector Nanda Gopal (Sai Kumar) escorts him to the court, and another attack takes place on Vikky. Nandu learns that there are police involved in the attacks on Vikky. Why are they attacking him and how do Nandu saves him is Sanchalanam story. 
 
Analysis: 
 
Director thrived to keep the suspense part alive till the interval. In the second half he started to unravel the secrets and as the suspense gets revealed what we get to see is an illogical, out of the world nonsense. Director failed to keep the narrative interesting even when the suspense is not revealed.</div><div style="color: black; font: 14px/20px Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif;">The film is filled with too many fights and chasings that will bore you to death. Climax of the film takes the routine path making the audience to leave the theatres much before the end credits roll. There is not a single worthy element in Sanchalanam to rave about. 
 
Performances: 
 
Kamalakar is raw and hopeless. His facial expressions are very bad. He didn’t improve a bit even after doing a couple of films. Sai Kumar is standard. Perhaps the only saving grace in this movie. LB Sriram is good and Asish Vidyardhi is Okay. Tehnicalities: 
 
There is only one song in this film. It is a remix of Vanga Thota which is not appealing. Cinematographer and editor did a decent job. Production values are good for a low budget film. 
 
Final Word: Sanchalanam has nothing sensational about it. Watch it at your own risk.
