Salman should do Magadheera remake: Kajal

 Kajal Aggarwal is an addition to the growing list of actresses, who are born and brought up in <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Mumbai">Mumbai</a>, but have made a successful career in South Indian cinema. She will be seen opposite <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Ajay-Devgn">Ajay Devgn</a> in the upcoming action flick <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Singham">Singham</a> . In an exclusive conversation with Gaurav Malani , she speaks about both, Bollywood and South cinema and how she wants all of her Telugu films to be remade in Hindi. 
 
 Wasn't (Ash-Vivek starrer) Kyun Ho Gaya Na your debut film! 
 I did Kyun Ho Gaya Na when I was in the ninth grade! I was still a kid then. So I would consider Singham as my Hindi debut. At that time acting was never on my mind and education was a priority. I wanted to pursue MBA but I strongly believe in destiny, which I guess, had different plans for me. 
 
 After Telugu films, was Bollywood the next obvious step? 
 I never strategized my career as such. I never planned that I wanted to start in Hindi films after working in a certain number of Telugu films. I am lucky that things have been naturally falling into place so far. 
 
 Were Singham makers particularly looking for a South actress for this Tamil remake? 
 Not really! Rohit Shetty wanted a fresh face for the film but also with an acting background to her. They did not have time to teach anybody. When they saw my film <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Magadheera">Magadheera</a> , which is a huge hit in South, they felt that I was perfect for the part in Singham . 
 
 Considering it's a male-dominated action flick, how much scope do you have? 
 There is also a sweet romantic story attached to Singham . Though I have a short role in Singham , it is an important part. I do not believe that the screen-space allotted to a character would define their acting ability. And I personally believe that even if the role is short, the impact that the character makes in that time is more important. 
 
 Ajay Devgn is known to be a prank-master. Did you fall prey of his jokes? 
 Ajay is a wonderful actor and pulled a prank on me on the first day itself. I was asked to scream for a scene and later I realized the camera wasn't rolling at all. But I think it was a nice way to break the ice. 
 
 What is that one thing you learnt from Ajay Devgn? 
 The ability to get into the character once the scene rolls and cut-off from it when the director says cut. The ease with which he does that is remarkable. 
 
 Which is a better film – the Hindi or the Tamil Singham ? 
 It is unfair to say that any version is better than the other. But I do think there have been changes made in the Hindi version which would suit the Hindi audience sensibilities. While the female lead (Anushka Shetty) in the original was a Tamil character, we have changed her into a Goan Maharashtrian in Hindi. 
 
 How comfortable were you with the Hindi language? 
 I am born and brought up in Mumbai, so Hindi and Marathi come very easily to me. 
 
 In that case how comfortable were you with Telugu language when you started in South? 
 Initially I had to work very hard over the language but now, after 4 years of experience, I am quite fluent with it. I am still learning Tamil though. 
 
 Would you want any of your South films to be remade in Bollywood? 
 All my films have fabulous remake value but I don't have a say in this. It's more of a director's call. But if you ask me, I would want all my South films to be remade in Hindi. 
 
 If Magadheera was to be remade in Hindi, which Bollywood hero can pull off the character? 
 The male lead in Magadheera has a lot of heroism in terms of his attitude and body language. Many Bollywood actors have the potential to play the lead in Magadheera . Choosing one is difficult but I guess Salman would suit the role best. 
 
 Post Singham what would be your focus – Hindi or Telugu cinema? 
 I would want to strike a balance. While my loyalties remain in South cinema, since I started out there, I would want to work in Hindi films as well. </div>

Violence at Osmania University, students begin fast

HYDERABAD: <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Osmania-University">Osmania University</a> turned a battleground on Monday in spite of a call for peaceful protest given by OU students' JAC members. While around 200 students started their indefinite hunger strike as planned in front of the historic Arts College building, around a thousand took to the campus roads shouting slogans and pelting stone at the police and paramilitary forces deployed at all the major entrances of the campus. The students have declared an educational bandh on July 13. 
 
The trouble started on OU campus at 10.30am when 50 students of <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Telangana">Telangana</a> Vidyarthi Aikya Vedika tried to take out a bike rally to Raj Bhavan and was stopped by the police at NCC Gate on Vidyanagar side of the campus. The arrival of Telangana advocates to join the hunger strike around the same time increased the tension. The stand off that ensued this at the NCC gate continued for five hours. 
 
Just one hour after the NCC violence, hundreds of students marched to the OU police station located near B-Hostel, demanding the release of advocates and students from other universities who were arrested on Monday morning for trying to enter the campus. The students claimed that police arrested thousands of their friends who wanted to join the hunger strike. With students barging into the police station several rounds of tear gas and stun grenades were fired by paramilitary forces who were stationed there. 
 
In the stand-off about 12 students and four police personnel suffered minor injuries. Among those arrested by the police are top ten OU-JAC leaders and leader of Telangana Advocates' forum Jyothi Kiran. Students' JAC leaders said that they will continue their strike till the central government initiated the process of state formation. "We are expecting more number of students to join us in the coming days. The central and state governments should understand will see hundreds of students die on OU campus if they do not initiate the new state formation," said Manne Krishank, OU-JAC spokesperson. 
 
Students said that arrested were made even before their counterparts from other districts could reach the campus. However, those who have gone on strike include students from Telangana University and Kakatiya University. The joint action committee members said that they had expected around 10,000 students to join them on the strike but with police arresting most of their friends, they couldn't match the figures. The students said that in the coming days they will conduct cultural festivals- Telangana Dhoom Dham on campus which will be attended by political JAC members including the resigned Telangana MLAs. "We will also conduct a Vanta Vaarpu" (cook and serve) on OU campus roads on Tuesday," said Tirumani Kondal, representative, OU-JAC. 
 
Osmania University police, said that they will have to arrest students from other campuses who are already participating in the hunger strike on OU campus. The police said that these students managed to get inside the campus about one week ago when police checks were not conducted outside the campus. The students' representatives, however, said that they will not leave the campus as it is their democratic right to protest.

Speaker to meet each MLA before taking a call

HYDERABAD\NEW DELHI: With over 100 MLAs from the Telangana region quitting over the contentious statehood issue, <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/assembly-speaker">assembly speaker</a> Nadendla Manohar said on Sunday that he would like to meet the legislators "personally" before taking a call on the resignations. According to sources, the process would take several weeks. 
 
Manohar, who is in <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/New-Delhi">New Delhi</a> to take part in an international conference, said he would also consult constitutional and legal experts on how to deal with the resignations of the legislators who put in their papers last week. 
 
"I came from the <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/United-States">United States</a> only now. I am here to attend a <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/SAARC">SAARC</a> conference. I have heard that some legislators have resigned. I will go into the issue after I reach <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Hyderabad">Hyderabad</a>," he told a press conference in the national capital. The speaker said no decision on the issue would be taken in a hurried manner. 
 
"I will seek the opinion of constitutional and legal experts. I would listen to their suggestions and will also consult experienced people in the state," he said.

HYDERABAD: They may be espousing the Telangana cause, but when it comes to the education of their wards, the champions of the separate state are not taking any chances. 
 
Conceding that the political uncertainty and unrest in the Telangana region triggered by the latest phase of the agitation for statehood by various political parties and groups will disrupt the academic schedule in the Telangana region, scores of parents are sending their children to Krishna and Guntur districts for intermediate education and <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/EAMCET">EAMCET</a> coaching. 
 
Principals of leading corporate residential colleges in Guntur and Vijayawada told TOI that there has been a 25% increase in the number of students from the Telangana region seeking admissions in their institutions. "More students from the Telangana region are seeking admission in our colleges.The trend is more visible in the engineering stream. Those students who are getting admission into engineering course in colleges in both the T region and Andhra region are opting for the latter as their first choice," said A Murali, principal of a junior college in Guntur belonging to the <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Sri-Chaitanya">Sri Chaitanya</a> Groups of Institutions. 
 
A <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Ravi-Prasad">Ravi Prasad</a>, principal of Narayana college in Vijayawada, also admitted that political uncertainty is contributing to the increasing migration of students from the Telangana region to institutions in the other two regions. 
 
"Many local parents were surprised to learn that the admissions got filled up so fast, and in view of the heightened regional tensions, many families from the Telangana region who have secured admission for their children here have urged us not to publicize the fact that they are outsiders," according to a source. 
 
Ironically, many parents from the Telangana region, who are sending their children to the other two regions for their studies are active participants of the separate state agitation.

PUNE: Congress general secretary <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Digvijay-Singh">Digvijay Singh</a> on Monday sympathised with scam-tainted party leaders -- MP <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Suresh-Kalmadi">Suresh Kalmadi</a> and former Maharashtra chief minister <a href="http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/topic/Ashok-Chavan">Ashok Chavan</a> saying he felt both of them were innocent. 
 
"We feel sorry for Suresh Kalmadi who is suffering hardships, and also for Ashok Chavan. In my personal opinion, both of them are innocent. But whenever any corruption charges are levelled, Soniaji has to take action," he said addressing party workers. 
 
Singh, who arrived in the city after visiting the famous Lord Vitthal temple at Pandharpur on the occasion of 'Ashadhi Ekadashi', said Congress had always fought corruption. 
 
It was because of the Right to Information Act brought by the Congress government that the recent scams, including those relating to the Adarsh Society, CWG and 2G spectrum, had come to light, he added. 
 
"Congress has not spared anybody and we have acted in all cases. On the other hand, BJP has not touched Karnataka chief minister B Yeddyurappa who is facing charges of corruption," Singh said. 
 
The Congress leader also felt that in the cases where the charge sheet had been filed and investigations were complete, the judiciary should consider granting bail to the accused. He, however, did not name anybody in this connection. 
 
Singh said Congress was proud of its leader Rahul Gandhi who had taken up cudgels in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar to bring justice to the underprivileged with his "padayatra". 
 
He rubbished Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati's charge that Gandhi had avoided food offered to him at a Dalit home during his foot-march. 
 
"The concerned Dalit has himself denied this allegation," he added. 
 
Attacking RSS, he said Congress would continue its fight against "fascist ideology".

The public vote on ICC's website closes in two days' time with results set to be announced the week before the 2,000th Test. 
 
"With the 2,000th Test coming up it is appropriate to remember some of the great players through the ages that have thrilled audiences and inspired us all," ICC chief executive Haroon Lorgat said in a statement. 
 
"With so many legends of the game to choose from, it is a very difficult task and I'm sure one that will lead to plenty of fond recollection and great debate. 
 
"Test cricket is the pinnacle format of our great sport and it is important we continue to protect and promote it so that it grows even stronger over the next 2,000 matches."

The movie climax shooting is planned to be done in Annapurna studios from July17th. These climax action sequences were being directed by Raja Mouli and the movie is directed by Vijayanedra Prasad. 
 
Movie is made under the Annapoorna Studios produced by Nagarjuna and deals with the freedom struggle of Telangana, music is by M M Keervani and Cinematography is by Senthil Kumar. Sneha, who worked with Nagarjuna for Sri Ramadasu, is playing heroine in Rajanna.

Harry Potter 7 part-2 is going to release in almost 125 screens in Andhra Pradesh . The film has been directed by David Yates and Warner Bros. Pictures is distributing the film across the world. The film boasts of a budget of $250 million.

Ram Gopal Varma and Koneru Kiran Kumar are jointly producing the movie. This film is slated for release on Dussera. Heroine is not yet announced officially for this film. Vivek Krishna is making directorial debut with Bezawada Rowdeelu. </div>
