Mandatory ID proof for all reserved train passengers

December 1, 2012, The train passengers
with reservations have to carry a valid photo ID proof. It will be
required only if you have reserved your ticket on Reserved Second
Class(2S), Sleeper Class(SL), III Economy Class(3E) and First
Class(FC).

the misuse of reserved ticketing system but also for general security
reasons, intitiated by the Railway Ministry.</div>

“It is necessary that atleast one
member of the passengers with a valid Passenger Name Record (PNR) for
journey in any class will have to produce atleast one of the below
given proof of original ID and if fails, all passengers booked on
that PNR are considered to be without ticket and will have to bear
the charges. However, the provision of the Tatkal will be continued
as earlier”, said in the press release issued by the Ministry of
Railway. They also said that the ID proof list will also be expanded
in future.</div>

See below the list for Tatkal ticket and other reserved classes will
now be as follows:<br />1) Voter Photo ID card issued by Election
Commission of India.<br />2) Passport.<br />3) PAN Card ID issued by
Income Tax Department.<br />4) Driving License issued by RTO.<br />5)
Photo identity card having serial number issued by Central/State
Government which include the following:<br />-Pension Pay Order
s(PPO)<br />-Ration Card with photographs<br />-Senior Citizen
cards<br />-Below Poverty Line (BPL) cards<br />-ESI cards (with
photograph) issued for taking treatment in ESI dispensaries.<br />-CGHS
Cards (with photograph) issued to individual family members of
Central Govt. employees.<br />6) Student Identity Card with photograph
issued by recognized School/College for their students.<br />7)
Nationalized Bank Passbook with photographs.<br />8) Credit Cards
issued by Banks with laminated photograph.<br />9) Unique
Identification Card "Aadhaar".<br />10) Photo identity cards
having serial number issued by Public Sector Undertakings of
State/Central Government, District Administrations, Municipal bodies
and Panchayat Administrations.<br /><br />

Currently, only E tickets, Tatkal
tickets or the AC classes (excluding in III economy -3E class)
passengers are the only passengers who travels with any one of the
photo ID proof.</div>
