From a very long time, India has been trying hard to get into the
prestigious Oscar circuit and each year a lot of competition happens to
send the best Indian film to bag the Oscar for the Best Foreign Film.
This year, despite a lot of opposition the film ‘Barfi’ was sent to the
Oscar panel.
But then the latest news is that ‘Barfi’ failed to make it to the next
round of contenders. Already, the film is facing a criticism from many
cine seniors that the content is not original and it didn’t have the
kind of depth required to compete on a global level and win the Oscars.
Many had suggested that films like ‘Kahaani’ and ‘Paan Singh Tomar’ had
good potential to actually score well since they were original and had
intensity. Anyways, India’s dreams of bagging an Oscar is shattered
again and maybe next year the case of ‘Barfi’ will serve as an example
of what not to send for the Indian government.
