ADILABAD: The continued disinclination of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in keeping the Adilabad bypass road closed is being quoted as the cause for the accident that claimed a life near Ramnagar locality on Wednesday. Jugnaka Karun Shah, 65, a Gond from Chandrapur district in Maharashtra was killed when a lorry hit him on the congested NH 7.
Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) activists and residents of Ramnagar once again staged a rasta roko following this incident demanding opening of the four-lane bypass road. They did not allow the body of the accident victim to be removed for quite some time. NHAI Project Director of Nirmal Project K. Srinivasulu told The Hindu that the bypass would be opened only when the Union government decides to do so. He said, opening of this new road was a policy decision that has to be taken by the Central government.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Adilabad MP Ramesh Rathod and other leaders met officials in the concerned Ministry in New Delhi seeking opening of the bypass road to ease congestion in Adilabad town and save lives. It is not known what response they evoked from the officials.
