Bengaluru, Oct. 10: Marcus North came into the second Test under lot of pressure with his Ashes berth hanging in balance. But the Aussie left-hander’s fluent 128 against India, his fifth in Tests may have sealed a spot in the Australian team for the high-profile series against England.
“That (Ashes berth), you will have to ask the selectors. I knew I was under pressure going into this game. I had a few disappointing matches but was fortunate to go out there and bat on a good surface. It was a very satisfying knock,” said North, after his knock gave Australia an upper hand on the second day.
North said his past experience in Indian matches helped. “India is a great place to bat but can be a little difficult at times. I have travelled a lot to India, been at the MRF academy and to Bengaluru before, so that experience helped,” he added.
Meanwhile, opener Murali Vijay, who will carry India’s hopes along with Sachin Tendulkar, said the batsmen have a big task ahead of them. “The wicket is deteriorating and the ball is coming a lot slower than expected. We will have to really work hard and play according to plan,” he said.
