I think I'm just lucky: Priya Mani

In the one year since she made her Sandalwood debut, Priya Mani has scored films with most of the industry's top heroes. "I think I'm just lucky. So don't ask me how I managed to get all these films with just about every top star," laughs the dusky lass. As for bagging the film with Shivanna, to be directed by Raghava Loki, Priya says the director loved her work in Raam and she "flipped" for the script.
<div> </div><div align="justify" class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">Four films in one year and still going strong. Not bad for her, considering most non-Kannada heroines do just one film before disappearing to better their careers in other industries. "I got Kannada offers before Raam, too. But nothing worked out because the scripts weren't good, or the remuneration didn't match up, or my dates clashed," explains Priya. Her other concern was that the Kannada industry isn't as big as its Tamil or Telugu counterparts, which means a smaller market.  <div> </div></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.telugudreams.com/intranet/tdadmin/upload/movies/NewsGossip/priyamani_img%2017nov.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.telugudreams.com/intranet/tdadmin/upload/movies/NewsGossip/priyamani_img%2017nov.jpg" /></a></div><div align="justify" class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">The scene isn't different in Tollywood. Priya is doing a film with Nagarjuna and Anushka titled Ragada. She shares a terrific rapport with Nag — that we are aware of. But what about Anushka? Any catfights we should know about? "Anushka's such a sweetheart. So far, it's been smooth sailing. And I'm not insecure about having another heroine in the film," she states. But apparently, Priya asked the director of another untitled Tollywood project to snip Vimala Raman's role in the film. Vimala was a late entry in the project and Priya supposedly didn't appreciate that.  <div> </div></div><div align="justify" class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0in 0in 0pt;">"On the contrary, I was the last to be chosen and Vimala was already in the film! I don't interfere with the director's vision. I do justice to what's offered to me," she clarifies. On the B-town front, Priya confesses that nothing interesting has come her way after Raavan. "But I'm excited about Rakta Charitra 2. Let's see what else Bollywood has to offer," she concludes. </div>

RGV " s latest film " Rakta Charitra " " Part 1received accolades as well as criticisms from critics, politicians as well as general public. The main controversy was that showing Late NTR on a bad phase. After Chandra Babu Naidu and other TDP leaders objected to the scenes involving Late NTR in negative shade, C Kalyan announced that they would be removing it.
<div class="subcntinfo">Now RGV is getting ready to face some more controversies with Part 2 of " Rakta Charitra " that is expected to hit theaters on November 19th. While the first part showed the character of Paritala Ravi (Vivek Oberoi) in a good phase, Maddelacheruvu Suri " s character (Surya) will enter in the 2nd part. In Part 1 Paritala Ravi will kill Narasimha Reddy and then grow as a political leader. Maddelacheruvu Suri is the son of Narasimha Reddy. " Ghajini " fame Surya played the role of Suri and Priyamani as his wife. Radhika Apte portrayed the role of Paritala Sunita. Bollywood actor Shatrughan Sinha played the role of Late NTR. Now it would be interesting to watch the two rival characters Paritala Ravi and Maddelacheruvu Suri on the screen and mainly everyone " s curiosity is how RGV portrayed them. </div>

Tollywood Trade report

Rakta Charitra is currently ruling the roost at the Tollywood box-office. Being relatively fresh and for being in limelight for various reasons RC opened to full houses in all areas. Its collections didn’t slide down on day 2 and 3 too as people are very much interested to see what is Ramu’s take on Paritala Ravi – Soori feud.

The controversy involving late NTR is only helping the initial euphoria. RC takes the top seat in its initial week and Brindavanam which had a terrific first week is slowing down at the moment. Piracy has turned the main villain to this film’s prospects.

Robo lost its grip in the fourth week and still managing decent collections making it a safe and profitable venture for the buyers. Khaleja which looked good enough to be an average film ended up as a flop. Hissss dubbed version is ruled out right on the first day and terminations already started off in many areas.

Dialogues: Nageswara Rao
DOP: Amol Rathod
Editing: Bhanodaya, Nipun Ashok Gupta
Producers: Madhu Mantena, Sheetal Vinod Talwar, Chinna Vasudeva Reddy, Rajkumar
Story,Screenplay & Direction: Ram Gopal Varma
Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Abhimanyu Singh, Shatrughan Sinha, Kota, Radhika Apte, Zareena Wahab, Sushant Singh, Tanikella, Subhalekha Sudhakar, Vishwajeet Pradhan, Rajendra Gupta, Ashish Vidyarthi, Kitty etc.
Release Date: 22nd Oct 2010
Rakta Charitra Story
Noted MLA Narasimha Reddy (Kitty) has got a trusted aide in the form of Veerabhadriah (Rajendra Gupta) in Anandapuram area.
However, Narasimha’s relative Nagamani Reddy (Kota) is unable to take this for reasons of caste and losing his presence. He plants a seed of friction and in no time, Narasimha Reddy gets Veerabhadriah killed. This enrages Veerabhadriah’s elder son Shankar Ravi (Sushant) and he gets into a killing spree and operates from forests.
Veerabhadriah’s younger son Pratap Ravi (Vivek) who is away from all this gets to know of this and before he realizes, Shankar Ravi also gets killed. He vows revenge on his father and brother’s killers and in this process, Narasimha Reddy, Nagamani Reddy and others are brutally killed. Nagamani Reddy’s son Bukka Reddy (Abhimanyu) who is insane to the core is unable to take this and he becomes Pratap’s main enemy.
Meanwhile, the rise of Pratap as opposite force to Bukka Reddy is noticed by Shivaji Rao (Shatrughan) who sets a new party and he decides to lift Pratap to put an end to Bukka Reddy. What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
Actors Performance in Rakta Charitra:
Vivek Oberoi is an apt choice, his eyes deliver the sufficient emotion of revenge and his body language is intense. He has done full justice to his role.
Abhimanyu Singh is a complete show stealer. His menacing looks and his cold blooded performance will give some spine chilling moments.
Shatrughan Sinha was contained and it must be said that traces of real life N T Rama Rao are quite prominent in his gestures and dialogue delivery.
Kota was perfect, Radhika was naturally appealing, Zarina was neat, Tanikella was impressive and he made his presence felt, Rajendra Gupta was adequate, Sushant was brief, Ashish Vidyarthi was alright, Subhalekha Sudhakar was standard, Subrat Dutta was good, the others did their bit as required and added value.
Highlights of Rakta Charitra:
Symbolism shots with respect to showing a cycle in Shivaji Rao (Shatrugan Sinha)’s place (recalling TDP and NTR), usage of left had, addressing as ‘brother’ are impressive.
Showing a dog barking after the death of Naga Mani Reddy (Kota) depicts ‘kukka chaavu’..That’s impressive.
Ram Moorthy (Tanikella) saying to Pratap Ravi ‘to shave beard as a politician should look clean at face although dirty at heart’
Bukka Reddy’s introduction scene
Disappointments in Raktha Charitra:
RGV’s voice over is overflowing. It’s not a radio drama to explain everything with a voice over. Whatever RGV is saying in voice, is being conveyed visually! It disturbed the mood to some extent.
Pratap Ravi stays in forest as per the dialogue. But he stays in a dusty hill area that hardly looks like a forest. It may sound trivial, but when such observations linger in mind, some audience gets distracted from the mood.
Why Dabbunnoda song? The context is not convincing.
Challenges:
The subject chosen is quite hard hitting so one needs to have some background information before actually connecting to the film.
Facing criticism with respect to Shivai Rao’s (a replica of NTR) characterization and converting it into publicity element.
Facing criticism and questions with respect to ‘pedda sir’ (implying YSR) and again converting it into a publicity element
Mood is suddenly dropping down at the conclusion point of the movie. Waiting till Part-2 to get completeness in feeling is a challenge for audience and it’s challenge for maker to sustain interest for 1 month till Part-2 release.
Final Cut:
“Goodness or badness can never be anyone’s property. They are situational.
If a man is hunger free, he showers only goodness. But if any sort of hunger (be it lust, power craving or greed or vengeance) hits him, he spells badness’.
Rakta Charitra is a fiction based on historical facts.
It’s rather powerful to say that it’s a true depiction of human emotions.
It’s a tour to extreme human beings.
Ramayan or Mahabharat or any chronicled history in dramatic form depicts the extremities of emotions in every character. For example if Karna is known for generosity, its shown with eccentricity of chopping off his own armored skin to offer for a beggar. If Bheeshma is known for sacrifice, its shown in extreme point of choosing life time celibacy to keep himself and his legacy far from kingship. Any drama holds grip only when the characterizations are strong. This fact was known for dramatists right from Veda Vyasa and Valmiki. Similar path is now chosen by Ram Gopal Varma is depicting a historical fact in dramatic form. Telugu Movie Reviews
He has shown Bukka Reddy as a determined rapist (!) and dedicated murderer (!).The incidents canned around this characterization are extreme in imagination. Pratap Ravi is shown as a bad guy, but for a true reason (since he is chosen to be the hero of the plot).
Ram Gopal Varma is a master of movie making and an expert storyteller. This is seen here yet again. As such, the storyline can be understood in few words and there is nothing unpredictable about it but then it is the way Ramu takes off with each scene and how he gets the viewer into the film which counts.
His screenplay techniques and shot compositions are one of those dexterities he possesses. Perhaps a layman might find the visual appeal to be dim but then there are few flashes of his brilliance which are seen on and off. The focus was more on the emotion of the protagonist and the villain so that is a challenge to handle for more than two hours.
On the other hand, it is not a typical Varma characterization where most of the actors give hard expressions, talk less and convey more. Here the characters speak sufficient and sometimes little verbose!! But still there is a rhythm in their performance and it connects to the regular audience.
On a whole it’s a movie about the raise of a leader.
Bottom-line: For the lovers of realistic violence.

He can attract good number of crowds even with his dumbest ever flicks only through marketing strategies.

He is the king of controversies and he uses those as the main weapons for his films to bag good collections. Rakta Charitra has enough of stuff to be in news and attract the attention of audience and media circles alike. When such stuff is at hands RGV could do wonders regarding marketing and he has done exactly the same right from the word ‘go’ for this film.

Rakta Charitra was released on Friday amidst lot of hype and hoopla and no wonder it has got stunning start at the box office. People thronged to the theatres in good numbers to have a look at RGV’s take on Seema faction. Despite having no known Telugu star Rakta Charitra opened to big crowds in all the major centers in and around AP. We have to wait and see for another couple of days to come to a conclusion about its box office stamina.

This film has irked late NTR’s fans as Ram Gopal Varma conceived few scenes which highlighted the dark side of NTR.

Though Ramu stated that this film is a fictitious adoption to real story of Paritala Ravi, NTR fans aren’t happy with the way their leader is shown in this film. In Rakta Charitra, Ramu showed that Shivaji Rao (character written after NTR) ran away fearing Bukka Reddy (Obul Reddy in real) and asked the help of Pratap Ravi (Paritala Ravi) to eliminate Bukka Reddy. These scenes didn’t go down well with NTR fans and there was severe agitation from them.

RGV and producer C. Kalyan immediately reacted and said that the controversial scenes will be removed right away.

No one is a Hero in Rakta Charitra

Ram Gopal Varma is currently busy in promoting his film Rakta Charitra. Since its announcement, Rakta Charitra has been in news for various reasons. RGV is trying his best to keep his film in focus and grab the attention of filmgoers.

Today, a press meet was held at Hyderabad in which Ram Gopal Varma addressed the media along with his ‘Paritala Ravi’ Vivek Oberoi. Telugu version producer C. Kalyan too was present at this press meet.

Speaking to media Ram Gopal Varma said “People are talking too much about this film. There is a big discussion about who the hero is in this film. There is no hero or villain in this film. Everyone is right in their own perspective. Everyone is a hero and for him the other one is the villain. I don’t say that what I showed in this film is completely a fact. This is a compilation of what is heard, read and thought. So, I can’t claim this as a real life story. This is a story based on two real characters and few true incidents. I want to watch this film on the first day in Anantapur sitting among the Anatapuram residents.”

RGV showered his praises upon Vivek Oberoi who enacted the role of Pratap Ravi in this film. “He surpassed my expectations. He is perfect choice for this role,” he said. Vivek expressed his joy to be a part in this film. ‘I am a big fan of Telugu cinema. I’ve watched Magadheera many times. Telugu film industry makes quality films,” he told to the media.

Recently RGV bowed to the agitations of Anantapuram people and altered the name of the place in which Rakta Charitra takes place to Anandapuram. However, this stirred up yet another controversy as there is another place in Vishakapatnam district with the same name.

People of Anandapuram who are peace-seekers aren’t happy with Varma’s decision to use their town’s name for a faction film. “How could he use our town’s name by making a film on faction and bloodshed? If they (Anantapuram people) are against using their place’s name, how could we allow our town’s name to be defamed? He (Ramu) should come up with a new name in two days. Or else, we will take serious action against him and his film,” Anandapuram residents warned.

In these days where trivial issues are being highlighted by the media, it is quite a task to make a film sans controversies. Let’s wait and see what Varma does to cool Anandapuram people. He actually should be happy for getting this free publicity without putting in any special efforts.

The famed director will be releasing his Raktacharitra, his violent filmy take on Rayalaseem faction wars , on October 21st.

The movie is based on Paritala Ravi and Maddelacheruvu Suri. As a result Ramgopal Varma had to face some warnings from people who support some of the characters involved with the afore mentioned real life characters. Inspite of all this RGV is planning to take his entire cast and crew to Anantapur, to watch the film on its first day of release.

This will only invited more trouble and will need lots of police security for the entire cast and crew. However, knowing RGV he can do anything for promoting his film and this statement could as well be on such promotional tactic!
