CBI has arrested an Assistant
Superintendent of Post Offices in Andhra Pradesh for allegedly accepting
a bribe from a person for settlement of a life insurance claim.
The complainant alleged that Assistant
Superintendent of Post Offices, Amudalavalasa, District Srikakulam P V
Ramanamurthy demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from him for settlement of a
life insurance which his late father had subscribed to, CBI said in New
Delhi today.
The agency stated that complainant's
father while working as Extra Departmental Mail Deliverer in
Chuguruvalasa Branch Post Office, subscribed to Postal Life Insurance in
April 2007 and he expired in January 2008. The complainant had
expressed his inability to the officer to pay the bribe of Rs 50,000 as
the total claim would be only around Rs 1,00,000, they said.
The accused asked the complainant to
come to office with his mother and collect the claim amount after paying
the bribe amount. The complainant was not willing to pay the bribe and
he lodged a complain with CBI Visakhapatnam following which a case was
registered yesterday, they said. The accused was allegedly caught red
handed while accepting a bribe amount of Rs 50,000 from the complainant,
CBI said.
The arrested accused is being produced today before the Special Judge for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam.
