The Anti Corruption Bureau has registered a first information report (FIR) against the former chief minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, Telugu Desam leader, Mr G.N. Naidu, and 13 others, under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Maithrivanam land scam case.
The bribery case was registered following the court order lifting the stay on the investigation. The ACB, which received the order from the court on Tuesday, sought legal opinion which suggested that a case be booked. The case has been handed over to the Central Investigation Unit of the ACB.
The allegation levelled against Mr Rosaiah is that he had favoured Mr Naidu and 13 others in a land deal worth over `200 crore near Maithrivanam in Ameerpet, and accepted a bribe in return.
The area of 9.14 acres was denotified from land acquisition on July 15, 2010, when Mr Rosaiah was the Chief Minister. The complainant is a lawyer, Mr T. Sri Ranga Rao.
Mr Ranga Rao said, “The land is situated in survey numbers 26, 30, 40 to 44. Around 30 years ago it was acquired by the government by depositing compensation money in the city civil court. Mr Naidu and others had asked the government in 2004 to denotify the land but it was rejected. When Mr Rosaiah was the Chief Minister, the application was made again. He had sought the opinion of the municipal administration department which said the land should not be denotified. It clearly said that Mr Naidu and others have no right quoting the apex court’s judgement. However, Rosaiah put aside the official view and issued GO number 288 favouring them.”
If the case is proved, the maximum punishment can be imprisonment for up to 10 years.
