The construction of Pulichintala project is likely to be delayed further due to the delay in the execution of the coffer dam work at Pulichintala project site in Guntur district.
Heavy inflows into Krishna river washed away the coffer dam at Pulichintala project in the district in July this year. As a result, the work was halted for the last three months. In order to resume work at the dam site they have to build the coffer dam. After reduction of inflows into the river, the contractor can build the coffer dam.
Meanwhile, the government directed the contractor to complete the project work by December 2010. In order to complete the project work the contractor has to complete the 5,80,000 cubic metres of concrete work. Till now he completed 4.5 lakh cubic metres of concrete work. The government directed the contractor to complete 4 tmc feet water storage capacity work by August 15 this year. Till now the work has not been completed.
The Pulichintala project superintendent engineer, Mr G. Pullaiah said, “After reduction of inflows into Krishna river we will construct the coffer dam.” In order to rehabilitate the displaced families due to the construction of the project, the district administration has to acquire 600 acres of land for 6,500 families in the surrounding villages. Till now the officials have finalised acquisition process for 400 acres.

Land rate was fixed for the acquisition of another 100 acres of land. Officials identified another 100 acres of land for acquisition.
The district administration has prepared plans to construct permanent houses for the displaced families under Indiramma Housing Scheme.
However, the families to be affected due to construction of the dam are not showing interest for shifting. If they shift to the houses, they will lose their livelihood.
Under RR package, the district administration has to pay compensation to the displaced families according to norms. It will take some more time to pay compensation to the displaced families.
The joint collector, Dr A. Sarat, directed to complete the rehabilitation work within the stipulated time.
