HYDERABAD: Jailed mining baron Gali Janardhan Reddy is all set to launch a new political outfit soon. Gali's close associate and former Karnataka minister B Sriramulu met him in the Chanchalguda prison here on Thursday and discussed the modalities of going ahead with their plan.
Sriramulu recently won the Bellary rural Assembly seat as an independent candidate after refusing to be fielded by his erstwhile party, the ruling BJP. "We are going to launch a new party in Karnataka. I will tour across the state for the purpose," Sriramulu told the media after over one-hour meeting with Gali. Sriramulu was accompanied by MPs S Pakirappa of Raichur and J Shanta of Bellary as well as former MP K Virupakshappa.
Right from the time Gali was sent to Chanchalguda jail as an undertrial in the alleged illegal mining case involving Obulapuram Mining Company (OMC), his close associates have been meeting him at regular intervals.
For Gali Janardhan Reddy, a former BJP minister in Karnataka, the victory of Sriramulu as an independent in the Bellary by-election recently was a sweet revenge against the ruling party whose candidate even lost the deposit. Interestingly, YSR Congress leader Y Jaganmohan Reddy's followers also met Gali in prison on a few occasions earlier.
Though Gali's efforts to secure bail proved futile, he has been given a special category prisoner status. "We have immense faith in the judicial system. Gali Janardhan Reddy may have been put in prison on some charges but he will come out unscathed," Sriramulu said.
