This will work perfectly fine. Connect the two computers using a crossover cable, and you’ll be able to game together and share files. In addition to the cable however, there is one more easy step. You need to make sure both computers are in the same workgroup.
- Right click My Computer, choose Properties, and check the computer name and workgroup.
- Put both computers in the same workgroup and restart.
- At restart, they will both be given an ip address on the 169.254.x.x network.
- Now, to access files on the remote computer, simply go to Start > Run, type \\computername and hit enter.
- You’ll be able to see all shared files.
- If gaming gives you any trouble, be sure to temporarily disable any security software or firewalls.
