COIMBATORE: Seven persons committed suicide on a single day in different parts of Coimbatore district on Wednesday.
A 55 -year-old house wife, S Rathinam, who lived in Goldwins near Peelamedu in the city, was suffering from diabetes related ailments. Depressed by her illness and her husband's sudden death three months ago, she consumed cow dung powder and killed herself, police said. Business losses drove 43-year-old B Natarajan of Ramanathapuram in the city to end his life. Natarajan ran up huge losses in a foreign currency exchange business, police said.
In a drunken fit, M Maduraiveeran of Rathinapuri, who was suffering from a bout of depression because he had no job, hanged himself at his residence.
In suburban Thudiyalur, Perianaickenpalayam, Koilpalayam and Perur four cases of suicide were reported on Wednesday.
