CHENNAI: A doctor was arrested on Thursday for sending lewd messages to a video jockey for the past one month.
Based on the complaint of Monica (name changed) of Perambur, a student of a private college in the city who worked as a video jockey, the police arrested doctor doctor Karunanidhi (47) on charges of harrassing a woman. He was later remanded in judicial custody after being produced before a magistrate's court.
The police said Monica, who suffered a head injury after a road accident last month, went to a centre in Royapettah where Dr Karunanidhi conducted a scan. He then suggested some tips to help her resolve the problem and Monica gave him her mobile phone number. According to Monica's complaint lodged at the all-women police station in Triplicane, she first received ordinary messages before getting lewd text messages.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that the doctor sent nearly 50 SMS a day to the victim. We have collected the calls and messages details of the doctor from the private service provider," a police official said
Dr Karunanidhi, who admitted to sending the messages, was booked under the provisions of the Tamil Nadu Prevention of Harassment of Women Act, the police said.
