Is the TDP, which is finding it hard to come to terms with the Telangana issue, heading for a split? “No! The Telugu Desam is not weak, no one can divide it,” a confident TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu asserted here on Thursday.

He was reacting to a media report that a Union Minister, with the help of his relative, was making a few moves to split the TDP. “Such things will not happen,” Naidu said.

The minister’s man was said to be operating from his residence to divide the party.

Significantly, the development came hours ahead of AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa’s dramatic offer of support to the UPA government in return for the dismissal of Telecom Minister A Raja.

The TDP chief too went hammer and tongs against A Raja and the UPA government soon after her announcement.

“A scandal (spectrum) of this proportion is not only mindboggling but also too scary even to think of. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s silence and inaction on corruption is becoming a curse for the country,” the former chief minister said.

Wondering why the Prime Minister was not acting against Raja even after the Supreme Court had questioned his continuance in the Cabinet, he demanded a probe by a joint parliamentary committee into the spectrum scam. On Jayalalithaa’s offer to the Congress, he replied he wouldn’t go into politics.
