A group of 40 students from SRM university have developed an all-terrain vehicle and a high-speed prototype racing car.

They showcased their car on Tuesday at SRM’s annual tech fest — Aaruush.
Team captain and fourth year B.Tech (Automobile Engineering) student Pritham Reddy said that the car was fitted with a Maruti 800 petrol engine and could go up to 110 km per hour.
“We worked for more than eight months to develop this car to take part in an automotive competition. We got funds to the tune of Rs 7 lakh from several corporates to design the car,” Mr Reddy said.
The team from SRM university took part in a racing event recently and bagged the Best Marketed Car award.
“We aspire to take part in many such competitions and also improve its capabilities,” Mr Reddy added.
Similarly, another team consisting of 25 members has developed an all terrain vehicle that can be used on almost all surfaces.
The car competed against several other teams at BAJA SAE India held at Pritampur in Madhya Pradesh this year.
The team of students from Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering, SRM university, also won the Best Innovation award in the DRDO student innovation project contest held recently.
Mr S. Christopher, director of DRDO’s centre for air-borne systems, witnessed the students’ demonstration in the presence of VIT university vice-chancellor Mr M. Ponnavaikko and registrar Mr N. Sethuraman.
