HYDERABAD\NEW DELHI: With over 100 MLAs from the Telangana region quitting over the contentious statehood issue, assembly speaker Nadendla Manohar said on Sunday that he would like to meet the legislators "personally" before taking a call on the resignations. According to sources, the process would take several weeks.

Manohar, who is in New Delhi to take part in an international conference, said he would also consult constitutional and legal experts on how to deal with the resignations of the legislators who put in their papers last week.

"I came from the United States only now. I am here to attend a SAARC conference. I have heard that some legislators have resigned. I will go into the issue after I reach Hyderabad," he told a press conference in the national capital. The speaker said no decision on the issue would be taken in a hurried manner.

"I will seek the opinion of constitutional and legal experts. I would listen to their suggestions and will also consult experienced people in the state," he said.
