Mullapudi Venkata Ramana, one half of the director-writer duo Bapu-Ramana, is no more. He breathed his last at his residence at Abhiramapuram in Chennai. He was 79. He was unwell for the past few days. He was born on June 28th, 1931 at Dhavaleswaram. His real name was Mullapudi Venkata Rao.

Mullapudi Venkata Ramana and Bapu were very good friends. The duo gave us many classic films. Ramana penned dialogues for films such as Sakshi, Muthyala Muggu, Pelli Pustakam, Mr. Pellam and Radha Gopalam. He has also penned the story for Mooga Manasulu. The writer, who created Budugu, the 'Dennis the Menace' of Telugu people, was a journalist before he turned full-time writer with Dagudu Moothalu.


Ramana's last film Sri Rama Rajyam is in the production stage. His autobiography 'Kothi Kommachi' has evoked great interest amongst the Telugu readers. Prominent Telugu tinsel town personalities have expressed sorrow over the death of Venkata Ramana.
