The Telugu Desam Party has accused Telangana Rashtra Samiti president K. Chandrasekhar Rao of working for ‘political ends’ rather than focussing his energies on achieving separate Telangana State. The TDP criticised Mr. Rao for targeting the party and its president N. Chandrababu Naidu in spite of being aware of the fact that the TDP with its six MPs had a ‘limited role’ to play in the State bifurcation.

Citing accolades showered by Mr. Rao on the Congress MPs for launching a hunger strike, he charged him with changing colours frequently.Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, TDP MLA A. Revanth Reddy said Mr. Rao should mount pressure on the Union Home Ministry to invite presidents of recognised political parties to attend the meeting.“By not insisting on a clear stand from Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Mr. Rao is giving credence to charges that he is always coming to the rescue of the ruling party,” he said.
Mr. Rao, who was “very close” to Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy, the only Telangana MP in the Union Cabinet, was not keen on eliciting the latter’s stand on separate Telangana.“Why should Mr. Jaipal Reddy hesitate to come out in support of Telangana when his Cabinet colleagues are openly rallying behind the Samaikhyandhra supporters?” he asked.Mr. Revanth Reddy expressed concern over the deployment of BSF personnel in Telangana region and wondered why the TRS was silent when the Central government had declared a “war on Telangana”.Reacting to Mr. Rao’s appreciation of former MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, he wondered whether the TRS president entered into a “secret deal” with him.
