Mumbai: City police today claimed to have busted an international prostitution racket with the arrest of three persons and rescued a young woman from Uzbekistan and a small-time Telugu actress-cum-model here today.
The trio, who worked as pimps, was arrested outside a five star hotel in suburban Santacruz today, police said.
According to police, they had received a tip-off that a flesh trade, involving young female foreigners and Indian actors, was being operated in the city.
Posing as customers, the cops approached the three agents, identified as Lalgeeta Nunnumandal, Ganesh Neeromandal and Samshad Ahmed Khan.
"The accused said they have foreign as well as Indian women working for them. They charge anything between Rs 50,000 to Rs 60,000 for a foreign lady and Rs 40,000 for an Indian woman," D R Gamore, inspector at Vakola police station said.
As the deal was struck, the accused called the cops, taking them as their customers, near the posh Grand Hyatt hotel at Kalina at 2 am today.
"The three agents, along with two women, arrived outside the hotel and were waiting for us. We went to them and arrested the agents before rescuing the females," Gamore said.
Indian woman is an actress-cum-model, who hails from Andhra Pradesh and has acted in several Telugu films, while the foreigner was identified as Uzbekistan national.
"The woman from Uzbekistan does not understand English. The Indian lady introduces her friend as a Russian to the customers. The two were sent to remand home, where they would be counselled before sending them to their respective homes," Gamore added.
