2012, the year was a mixed one for bollywood. While some films may have grossed highly, other highly anticipated movies did not get a look in by the audience. There were some critically acclaimed movies, while some movies which got panned by critics managed to become the box office superking’s. 2012 Filmfare awards tries to give maximum attention and recognition to all those who tried to work hard to make 2012 a better year for Bollywood.

The official sponsor of Idea awards is Idea while the awards will be hosted by Imran Khan, who had managed to get the audience tickled with his jodi with Ranbir Kapoor last time. The 57th filmfare awards are scheduled to take place on 29th January 2012, as usual in the Yash Raj Studios. The event is to be telecasted by Sony Entertainment. This filmfare award celebration overlaps with the centenary celebration of bollywood. With this billing and the usual star hype surrounding the award function, it is being tipped to be a grand success.
There are many categories where members of the film fraternity are honoured for their achievement. Technicians as well as artists get rewarded for work. Some of the categories and their possible nominations are
  • Best Playback Singers(Male/Female)
 Many melodious tracks were sung in 2012. Who can forget the Khwaabon ke Parindey from Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara sung by Mohit Chauhan, Alyssa Mendonca or the peppy song Ooh la la sung by legendary Bappi da? Hrithik, Farhan and Abhay combined to give us the entertaining Senorita while Shankar Mahadevan gave us the wonderfully romantic Dildaara from Ra.one. Mohit Chauhan and Suzanne D’Mello combined to give us Tum Ho, a beautiful romantic track from Rockstar. It looks likely that Mohit may snatch the award in the male category. Shreya Ghoshal is the likely candidate in the female category with her song Teri Meri Prem Kahani from Bodyguard.
  • Best Music Director
Vishal-Shekhar stole the show with movies Ra.one and The Dirty Picture, while Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy gave beautiful music rendition in Zindagi Milegi Na Dobara. Himesh Reshammiya gave hummable tunes in Bodyguard, while the ever reliable Pritam composed the tracks of Ready and Desi Boyz. A R Rehman gave the modious music of Rockstar. Ram Sampat is also in contention to get a look in for the ever so popular Delhi Belly Soundtrack.
  • Best Lyricist
 Shabbir Ahmed looks a strong favourite in this category with his lyrics for Bodyguard. Javed Akhtar has penned the lyrics of Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara with usual authority and ease, while Rajat Arora may get a look in for his Ooh la la lyrics. Irshad Kamil has worked really hard to pen some melodious words in Rockstar, while Amitabh Bhattacharya gave the lyrics of unconventional yet entertaining Delhi Belly. The fight will be down to the wire in this category.
  • Best debut (Male/Female)
Nargis Fakhri was appreciated for her role in Rockstar while Parineeti Chopra, cousin of Priyanka Chopra made a decent debut with Ladies vs Ricky Bahl. Sarah Jane Dias made her much anticipated debut with Abhishek Bachchan in Game, while Myra Karn did get accolades for her role in No one killed Jessica. Kajal Aggarwal also made a good debut with Singham.
In the male category, Rana Daggubatti made a powerful debut with Dum Maaro Dum and was romantically linked to his co-star Bipasha Basu. Shiv Pandit made an effortless transition from TV to silver screen with Shaitaan. Vidyut Jamwal meanwhile stole the show with his negative yet interesting performance in Force with John Abraham.
  • Best Supporting role (Actor/Actress)
Paresh Rawal did a fabulous job in the movie Ready as Salman Khan’s confused namesake Uncle. Rani Mukherjee stole the show in the female category in No One Killed Jessica. Farhan Akhtar did a splendid job as the funny yet caring friend in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara while Prakash Raj was the pick of the lot with his astounding negative role in Singham.
  • Best Actor/actress
Shahrukh Khan gave a hit in the form of Ra.one, but it was Salman Khan who stole the show with his performances in 2011. Bodyguard and Ready, both his releases did not have a strong story line, but sailed at the box office due to the sheer performances of the star. He looks the likely winner in this category. Shahid Kapoor did ripple with his role in Mausam while Ajay Devgn made a strong impact as Baajirao Singham in Singham.
Kareena Kapoor put on a good show as Divya in Bodyguard while Asin played Sanjana really well in Ready. But it was Vidya Balan who may bag the black lady with her performance in The Dirty Pictures. She was much appreciated by critics and audience alike for her role of Silk in the movie.
  • Best Director
Milan Luthria made the much appreciate The Dirty Picture, while Rohit Shetty did the action film Singham. Anubhav Sinha may also get in a look in for Ra.One here, along with Anees Bazmee for Ready. Zoya Akhtar directed the splendid movie Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, while Abhinay Deo the son of legendary Marathi actor-actress Ramesh and Seema Deo gave a hit in the form of Delhi Belly.
  • Best Film
Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara along with Bodyguard and Ready are sure shot candidates in this category. Ra.One may also get a look in with The Dirty Picture. Singham was also a well made movie along with Delhi Belly, so there may be a chance for both these movies to stake their claim on the shining black lady too. The most coveted award will go to the deserving film that is for sure.
The above nominations were based on the performances of the names in the year 2011. Official nominations are expected to release later this month. Besides the awards, many Dance numbers and other cameo performances by many film celebrities are expected to add glitter to the night. The much celebrated and coveted award in the Bollywood industry is sure to get the TRP racing.
