Santa seems to have heard the wishes of Mumbai college students. 
Aakash tablet now available at Rs 1,138 comes as a perfect Christmas gift to them.

Students from Mumbai University and 100 other varsities will be able to avail this offer.

The step for selling the low-cost tab almost at half price was taken by officials of the board of college and university development.

A circular has been issued to all affiliated colleges and departments, board officials said.

Reportedly, students will also be able to access all the online content for undergraduate and postgraduate courses developed under the Human Resources Development Ministry (HRDM) free of cost.

In order to buy the tab, students need to place an order with their college or department.

Earlier Datawind, the makers of Aakash, had put up near about 30,000 tablets online with a price tag of Rs 2,500, with a delivery period of seven days.

The seven-inch touch screen tablet flaunts of features such as 256 megabytes of RAM, ARM 11 processor with the Android 2.2 operating system, two USB ports and HD-quality video.

According to sources, Aakash's next commercial version called the Ubislate 7, 
which has a faster processor, is slated to be launched late January.

Ubislate 7 is set to have a 700 Mhz processor compared to the present one and will be priced at Rs 3000 for sale online.

The current version of Aakash has a battery life of about 1.5 hours.
