A day ahead of the final Ganesh idol procession, Home Minister Sabitha Indra Reddy reviewed the security arrangements on Saturday by visiting a few Ganesh pandals in old city.
Along with Hyderabad Police Commissioner A.K. Khan, the Home Minister went to Ganesh pandals installed by different associations near Gulzar House, Mitti ka Sher, Aliabad and Gowlipura. Congratulating people of Hyderabad for celebrating Ramzan and Ganesh Chaturthi festivities for nine days, she remarked all should help to ensure the final procession on Sunday too passes off peacefully.
Mr. Khan said the police were making all efforts so that all Ganesh idols crossed Charminar before 4 p.m.
Traffic not allowed
Meanwhile, traffic restrictions have been imposed in view of the immersion. No traffic would be allowed on the main Ganesh idol procession route from Keshavaigiri in old city to Tank Bund-NTR Marg via MJ Market and Abids on Sunday.
Those who want to cross this route can do so only at Basheerbagh junction, the police said. The other alternative is either to go beyond Keshavagiri or Tank Bund-NTR Marg and reach their destinations.
As several tributary processions originating from different points of the city would join the main one, all lanes and by-lanes along the main route would be barricaded. For example, commuters intending to go from Himayathnagar to Banjara Hills should cross the main procession route at Basheerbagh or go towards Secunderabad and take Begumpet route to reach their destinations.
Those heading for Vidyanagar from Nampally too can pass through Basheerbagh junction or go to Secunderabad and go towards Vidyanagar.
