Legendary director K Balachander is to be awarded with the prestigious Akkineni National Award. Akkineni International Foundation that presents the National award every year to one great personality who contributed to the Indian film industry. Padmashri K Balachander will be honored with memento, citation and Rs 4 Lakhs cash at a ceremony to be held on January 11, 2011 at Shilpa Kala Vedika in Hyderabad.

The past winners of the award include Dev Anand, Shabana Azmi, Anjali Devi, Vyjayantimala Bali and Lata Mangeshkar.
