What’s it about!
Rama Krishna is a football player and lives with a big family consisting of his father, loving sister, aunts and uncles. But to him, sister Harita (Sharanya Mohan) is the world. One day, she goes missing. So Rama Krishna searches for his sister only to find that she is eloped and got married to a faction leader’s son (Shaam). There he finds that she is being harassed by her uncle and her husband. How Ramakrishna brings changes in his uncle’s family forms the rest of the story along with his romance with a girl (Sana Khan).

Analysis

Brother and sister sentiment stories laced with mass elements have now become so stale after the umpteen movies made on the theme. So what new thing this Kalyan Ram Katti offers? In one word, nothing. Not just the story is so formulaic, even the narration and the driving points of the movie are so predictable that half way through the movie, audiences easily can tell what scene comes next. At one point it becomes so dreary to sit through.

Moreover, the so-called entertainment scenes are also so dull to laugh. The story itself is such hackneyed, the director has hardly any engrossing ‘element’ on his hands, to sustain the audiences’ interest.

The only thing that is positive about the film, it is made with some good budget which has given the movie rich look. Other than that it is tedious watch.

Performances
Kalyan Ram has worked hard to look different but he looks good only in dances. Performance wise he hasn’t improved much. He does okay. Sharanya Mohan excels in her role both as chirpy girl and as a suffering wife. Newcomer Sana Khan has nothing much to do other than singing songs and Shaam carries the movie with single expression throughout the movie. Veteran actor Kota is at his best. Other comedians are okay.

On technical front, Sarvesh Murari’s camera work deserves the praise. Ram Lakshman’s action stunts are also good but they don't gel with the story. Writer Vakkantam has just recycled the story of several mass masala movies and one wonders how does Kalyan Ram, the producer, accepted such hackneyed storyline. Dialogue writer Ratnam’s lines are also not effective. Music is another drawback. Director Mallikarjun has tried to give the film a glossy look. But he is letdown by the writers. Jaded script of the movie is the main villain.

Bottom-line

Kalyan Ram’s Katti lacks shine and instead it gives the feeling of a ‘hammer’ stroke on the head. A very formulaic film told in predictable manner.
