Flavourless Ice Cream

Ram Gopal Varma is on spree to churn out films. Not long ago, he came up with Rowdy, although it was a rehash of Sarkar and God Father, the movie fared well for various reasons and turned out commercially successful. Unlike Rowdy, Ice Cream, which was also made on shoe-string budget, may not work like the former. Check out why.

Excessively publicized over the introduction of applications like Flow Cam, Flow Sound technology, the movie managed to garner little buzz. And the widespread news about "nude scene" (shower scene) of Tejaswi brought hype for the film. Contrary to it, RGV's Ice Cream falls flat. The film is terribly boring that audience fumble towards nearest exit in theatres.

Simply put, Ice Cream is all about Renu (Tejaswi) and her happy-go-lucky boyfriend Vishal (Navdeep). When Renu's parents are off to a wedding leaving her alone in their sprawling villa, she goes out to a horror film along with Vishal and comes back with him to the villa. Vishal often plays pranks with Renu and he even narrates few horror stories to scare her that night.

Meanwhile, breaking the eerie of silence, few weird sounds are heard by Renu and Vishal in the villa. The duo feel paranormal activities. What is the problem in the house? How do they overcome? The answers to the questions form the Ice Cream.

The narrative of film is the biggest stumbling block besides the fact that there is no novel point in the film. This story/plot is more or less seen/ told in previous films of same genre. Pardyodhan's music is blessing in disguise. Editing could have been much better. Pratap Kumar should have cut the unnecessary drags in the film. And director Ram Gopal Varma should be blamed for it. While Tejaswi showed up subtle performance as Renu, Navdeep played spoilsport. Telugu girl Tejaswi should improve her dubbing. Once again blame RGV for his love for weird positioning of camera angles. Rather creating effect, they often mar the film.

Yes, Flow Cam and Flow Sound techniques are new to Telugu and Indian audiences. But there is no point in them if the story, narration disappoint. Technology, new techniques should come in handy for the story, film. Only then they will work in favour of the film. As long as the techniques help to present the film simply or create a greater sense and impact, it is fine. Else, the end result would be like RGV's Ice Cream. After watching the film, one could easily predict that RGV hasn't worked much on the script.
