The worst-affected were cotton farmers whose crop on about one lakh acre in the three districts were damaged.

According to agriculture department sources here today, cotton crops were soaked in rain water for three days and this would spoil the cotton.

A group of cotton farmers at Managalagiri in Guntur District told reporters the farmers started harvesting cotton a month ago and the operations were still on. The rains had affected the operations as the crop was damaged.

The farmers said usually they yield 15 quintals of cotton in an acre but now they expect only five to six quintals.

Besides, the colour of the cotton would change and quantity would decline considerably, they explained.

The farmers said that a few days ago, they were being offered Rs 4,000 per quintal and now they hardly expect less than Rs 2,000 per quintal.
